Iv'e had my 2014 1500 Laramie for a year now. I love this truck! I'm usually in another vehicle driving at night so I didn't realize how awful the headlights are until just a couple of weeks ago. I want to upgrade the bulbs in the projector headlights to something brighter. Not interested in changing to HID or LED. Just better bulbs. Bought Philips Xtreme Vision H11 from Amazon (the manual says I have H11 bulbs for low beam). Watched a number of YouTube videos on how to change them (major PITA! Every step was more difficult than on the video - go figure). I started my little project - removed the plastic protective cover, removed the grill, removed drivers side headlight only to find that the bulb doesn't fit! !@#$! Put everything back together, packed up the bulbs for return to Amazon. I've attached photos. Can someone tell me what the heck this bulb is and whether I can get a brighter one like the Philips or Sylvania with this tab configuration? Has anyone experienced this?

Unfortunately changing to just another halogen bulb will have pretty much 0 improvement over stock bulbs, and since you have a 2014 Laramie you should have projectors correct? The only way you will see improvement in usable light is HID’s unfortunately.

There have been many posts on here in the past about many different bulbs and brands and none of them have been good in our trucks

Not sure if I am confused or just misunderstanding. Are my headlights on my '14 Express, the Quads or Projectors? I was thinking they are the Quads.

Lookup H9 conversion on this forum

I you are not knterested in HID/LED (and that is totally fine, no judgment here) then yhe H9 upgrade is what you'll want.

Common sense isn't...nor is common decency.

I have read many of the threads on the forum regarding HID, LED, and H9 upgrades, all of which require some kind of retrofit. I've also read where some have been satisfied with brighter-than-stock halogens. I want to try that first. My main concern is that the specified H11 bulb doesn't fit. It has small metal tabs; mine has wide plastic tabs. Even the prongs on the plug have a different spacing. So I couldn't even replace a bunt out bulb using manufacturer's instructions. My photo shows a German-made (Vosla) bulb with several numbers.: 28032, H1R2, 9012, and 4C11J. I need help deciphering which is the bulb type that would correspond to the H11 designation so I can buy something that wii fit.

I have never experienced this level of conundrum replacing a headlight bulb in any vehicle I have ever owned. This should be simple. I guess we can't expect simple any more.

I may have figured this out. I misread the manual - H11 is for the Quads, H1R2 is for Projectors. Although I found a website that says it's a 9012. Both numbers appear on my bulb. I'll sort it out. I guess my frustration is self-inflicted. I'll go with H1R2 and have at it again.

It is a 9012 bulb. You might be able to go to a 9011 bulb.

Please keep us posted on what you come up with. I have a 2013 with the projector lights and would love something brighter.

The sylvania bulb will be identical as to what you have - 9012 is a 9012.
It may be a tad brighter if the original is long life and new ones are not.

Well, the installation went much more smoothly the second time. Everything came off easier and the whole thing took about 20 minutes. Used Sylvania Silverstar Ultra - learned that those are identical to ZXE without the blue hue. I hate the blue lights. Anyway, job done, lights work. Haven't been out in the Ram at night yet. I'll chime in with my observations when I do.

I love HID lights. Wish I would have done it the day I bought my truck. 15 minutes to install.

I did the H11 to H9 in my 2015 Bighorn, and brighter bulbs in fogs...worked great.

Here is side by side of two 2014 Rams. One with factory projectors with halogen, the other with factory projectors with HID.

The Sylvanias are substantially better than the originals. Of course the originals were 4 years old so that may have something to do with it. New bulbs are adequate. Moving on from headlight issue.
