Monday I had what I believe a lifter fail causing a knock on the passenger side of the block. I stopped the truck and immediately had it towed to the dealer. Long story short, the lifter failure seems to be common with the Hemi's and the dealer claims it's unrepairable. Quoted me $11k for a new 5.7... Had the RAM towed back to my house and called a local shop that I've delt with in the past. The mechanic is working on a '14 RAM with the same issue! Owner had the same story as mine. Changed the oil, knocking started weeks later, dealer says new engine.

With that being said I'm looking to add a new cam and Hellcat lifters. I have a custom tune from Jay Greene and am leaning towards installing his Stage .5 HL v2 standard cam kit.

Has anyone had any experience with Jay's cams?

If you don't mind me asking, what was you're oil change history? Brand, weight, and OCI.

+1 I'd like to know also. Oil brand and weight.

Ditto!

Thank you for the update. Just an uneducated guess but it seems that m1, Amsoil, and redline in the 20wt will get you to around 100000 miles, +or -. Haven't seen any reports on PUP. From what I've been reading it seems like far fewer failures with a 30wt.

My truck doesn't have MDS but with that being said if it did, I'd still run 5w30 especially, in hot places. 5w20 I believe not to be enough lubrication over certain temps.

Any other pics of the can? Most of these have pitting or spalling on the noses of a few of the cam lobes.

Unfortunately no, that was from the mechanic to my salesman. I bought the truck on the condition that they fixed it all. They did the manifold bolt(s) too cause of course there was at least one of those broken lol. Hoping the engine got it out of its system now at 75K miles and this does not happen again.

Replace the engine because of lifter failure? Get outta here. I've done cam & lifter replacements in a few OHV engines myself, there's no need to replace the whole thing.
