Bad satellite signal they say, horse****, with a capital S. All navigation systems in cars are designed to work even if there is no sat signal most have software that uses the VSS to guestimate your location in case of just such a loss and that is usually when you have a total loss of satellite communication.
If what they were saying were true the following things would be happening and would have happened before.
1. Everyone would be having these issues even the folks who have not done the latest update. I have not done the latest update and have not experienced this at all.
2. This would be an issue with other make vehicles and at the very least would be a minor news item about a problem with the government satellites that provide said signal.
3. everyones radio would have been doing this all along whenever you entered a blackout area like a TUNNEL. I was stuck in traffic for close to and hour and a half in the big dig (Mass) and my Nav never went black, no sat radio whatsoever though.
This is just typical Fiat and useless-connect outright lying to customers, something that seems to be business as usual for these jerkoffs.
Problem happened Sunday on my Ram; that is the screen-blank-then-activating nav thing. Happened about 3 times on a 50 mile trip. Then on Monday the wife called me from our Jeep Cherokee and said same thing happening ... but it got worse.... Nav failed to calculate routes, got stuck in one location and wouldn't update. I later discovered the Nav version showed as 15.06.1, even though dealer was supposed to have put in the "security" update (15.17.5) last week. Evidently they did not; probably just messed up the 15.06.1 I had put on there back in June. I reinstalled 15.06.1 last night.
Meanwhile, on many FCA product forums there reports of this problem.... Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler with Uconnect 8.4xx versions all having same symptoms. The only thing that seems to vary is the reasons people are being given... satellites, Google, Garmin just fingerpointing I think. Real problem is likely never to be announced.
Now it seems that the blank-screen-activating-nav problem stopped happening sometime today. Hope it does not come back.
I have lost confidence in FCA and my dealer.
