Curious how many changed the spark plugs at or around 100,000 and if you noticed much of a difference after?

Also heard the plugs are pretty pricey?? Dealership is asking about $400 to do a tuneup.

That's actually on the low end. Here it's 600 at the dealer. I did mine. Didn't notice any difference, but if I did then I left them too long.

Plugs are pricey, there are 16 of them. Part of the price you pay for getting 400hp out of 5.7 liters with two valves per cylinder and no power-adder.

I had the ones in my 2012 changed at 65,000mi. Cost was around $400. Think I picked up 1MPG. If you've hit 100k and haven't changed them then YES it is time.

Maybe I'm too long in the tooth, but I change @ 50,000 miles. Why? Because my past experience with platinum coated plugs advertised to be "100,000 mile" plugs was they were worn / eroded / pitted / deposits by then.

Now we have iridium coated, which are some % higher resistance to pitting and wear. But there are still 16 of the things so rather than leave them in and wait until I have a problem with misfire and sputtering, I still plan to change these at 50,000 miles. Maybe I'm nuts, so be it.

And I'm not replacing with OE "laser" iridium, either. Those have iridium coating on BOTH electrodes, but the later Hemi's don't use dual polarity waste spark ignition. That's the only time you need both electrodes coated. I'm going with the significantly less pricey NGK Iridium IX - which only coats the positive electrode. Because that's all that's needed.

I’m just not a gear head at all and I mean that in a very complimentary way, as I wish I was. I had a 4 cylinder sunbird convertible many years ago I thought I’d change them on and it had a aluminum or stainless tube that ran right along the top. When I tried to get them out I creased the tube and had to replace it too. About $100 extra. And with 16 of these and their price those odds aren’t in my favor. I’d cross thread one, over tighten one, break one, or something else. I just don’t have a great place to do it, don’t have nearly all the tools to do many repairs and definitely don’t have the experience.

NGK 92145 will run you about $100 @ RockAuto.

Get the Gearwrench 80546 magnetic spark plug socket. It is a lifesaver, worth every bit of the $12 or so that it costs.

Edit: Just saw you have a v6, I was speaking for the Hemi with the plug numbers.

I had mine done at the dealer just before 100K to keep my lifetime warranty intact without a hassle. I think I paid around $750 but honestly can't remember..... it was somewhere in that ballpark. Did I notice a difference? Yeah, I was $750 poorer :) :) So no, didn't notice a performance difference at all. I think the point of things like this is to keep the truck running at its peak before you notice a dropoff. Any hope of increasing MPGs any noticeable amount is a dream (unless it's downhill with a good tailwind from the dealer).

Entirely worth it. I got my company truck with 120k on it, one of the first things I did was new plugs and WOW. I'm about to hit 200k here soon, and I'll replace them soon.

Personally? I would just do the job myself.

The problem I have seen is plugs left in that long have issues coming out. Plugs break because they are seized in the head. These are on the 10+ year old vehicles.

Mine is a 2014, so not to 10 years yet, but I think I’m going to get it done this weekend or next.

Make sure who ever you get to change them, tightens them down!! I had one plug work its way loose and rattle around under the coil pack, even melted the one of the rubber boots on the coil.

I do mine once a year with copper core plugs. My 09 had issues with the coils not liking anything else.

I did mine at 80k, I did both sets.

I would say its worth it. The one set are rated for 160,000km.

However, the gap on them was over double of what was allowed.

I found the truck idled smoother. You are just going to restore smoothness that you lost over time.

I would put the best NGK option available as you will not get the life expenactancy the company reports.

Agreed. My son recently picked up a '14 with the 5.7 and I suggested he should at least check the plugs since the truck didn't come with any maintenance records. We pulled a couple out for a look and they looked fine but I sure didn't like the way it felt as they came out. We pulled them all and replaced them with a trace of Nevr seize on the threads. As an aside I bought the Gearwrench magnetic spark plug wrench and I'm glad I did. I don't think I could have done it without.

My owners manual say 100,000 is when to do this. I think it should be about $400. to $500 depending on the dealer. I have watched several YouTube videos on how to change the plugs, However frankly I am going to let them do it. Now the part I an dreading is the axel and transfer case and Transmission fluid change, not all that's going bur a hole in my wallet. Allthese were due before 100,000 miles which I have not done yet. 4x4's are not cheap to maintain.

my 2011 has the champions
I changed them myself at 60000 miles and they looked the same as the new ones.
I noticed no difference with the new ones

I changed mine out with a little over 250,000 miles on them. Noticed no difference in performance or MPG's.

Well mine is a done deal. Took it in Saturday and waited for 4 hours to get it back. They don’t do appointments on Saturday just first come first serve and I obviously wasn’t first.

Did the spark plugs, the pcv valve and some type of cleaning of an intake that is supposedly recommended at 100.000.

just glad to have it done.
