Hi everyone, i have had my 1997 Ram for 5 weeks today i believe. I LOVE it! Much better than my previous truck. Well, the question i would like answered today is; can i use my stock stocks with a 2.5" spacer in the front and a 2" block in the rear? or should i get shocks too. I'm in school right now, so I'm looking for a cheap, reliable lift. Any input is great! Thanks!

You can use your stock shocks but they will wear out quickly because they are extended. I recommend getting new shocks that are meant for lift. The rear shocks will be fine.

Thanks for your reply! I will eventually get new shocks for 2" of lift, but for right now, I just want to get it lifted so i can do some offroading. Do you think those shock extenders that you can get to extend the shock stud would save them for a few months? They have them at O'Reillys for $7, i could pick up a set and throw them on.

I honestly couldn't tell ya on that, I've never used them. You should be okay with your stock shocks for atleast a few months as long you don't pound your truck to death off road.

Well, as of now, I'm just going to get some good lift shocks. My caliper slide bolts broke today, and my caliper fell off while i was driving, pretty scary might i add, while i was in there fixing that i got a good look at my shocks. They are dead(along with my sway bar end links and bushings), so I'm just going to get new shocks all around!

So, i decided to go with a rear add-a-leaf to avoid stacking blocks. The leaf is rated 2-3 inches of lift. How do you think it would look with the 2.5" coil spacer and the rear 2-3" leaf?

i had the zone 2.5 coil spacer for awhile with a skyjacker aal rated at 1-2" and ran the stock shocks. never had a problem while i was running that lift. had it for about a year then went with a 5" lift.

The rear will be slightly higher if it is 3".

Well, im asuming once it settles it will be around 2.5 or 2. Either way, Im okay with it having a little rake or being level. I just want more room in the wheel wells for some 33 or 34s(I know i can fit them now, i just like having lots of room in the well)

How do the spacers hold up with moderate offroading? My friend has a Ram with a 2.5 rough country lift and 2" blocks in the rear and his is holding up great.

Also, my truck sits pretty much level as it is. Its about 1/2" lower in the front.
(My $1600 worth of truck)

Ram 2500 shocks from the same year are like 2" longer.
You have to remove the shock to install the coil spacer anywho...

I was thinking of using 2500 shocks, but i need shocks that can stand up to off-road abuse, and i don't think $25 Monroe shocks will(i had them on my old F150 and i blew them the first time off-road).

Well, here it is. I used 2500 shocks for the front. The aal didn't lift it quite as much as i wanted. It lifted it maybe 2" instead of the 3" i wanted(i wanted the back a little higher than the front for hauling) so i might add a small 1 inch block to do that. But here is the picture. I have stuff in the bed, so it is a little lower than usual.

Height looks pretty good to me.
Did you do a 2.5" spacer upfront?

You'll want either an adjustable trac bar, or a full replacement trac bar bracket here soon.
You axle will have shifted about 3/4 to 1" to one side with that much lift. Fun times!

Yeah, 2.5" Spacer in the front and a 3" add a leaf in the back(Although it only did about 1.5"). I did notice the axle shifted. What trac bar would you recommend? I'll need a new one soon.
