so, trying to gather some info. I have a 2015 6.4, what oil are all you 6.4 guys using or reccommend?

Last I checked ONLY Penzoil Ultra meets the 6.4 spec. Don't worry because it also happens to be a great oil.

It is great news for the 6.4 guys to have options. Can you guys find the spec sheet that shows any oil meets Chrysler MS12633 so those guys minds would be set at ease using that oil? Example, this page certifies Ultra meets that spec. If there are other oils that certify they meet spec that is wonderful, post them pages up! thanks

Good idea. I edited my post to add a link to the data sheet showing the specs.

As sure as i am that amsoil ss will do a fine job protecting a 6.4 as would m1 0w40 it still says "recommended for" so that doesnt mean they are Chrysler certified. I know its nit picking but it is what it is. I wish amsoil would stop playing holier-than-thou and actually go out and get their oils certified itstead of saying just trust us. Obviously if dealers are using m1 0w40 there should be no problems with denial of warrenty but who wants to gamble with a brand new truck?

All small oil companies play that game, it cost money to get certified and Amsoil, Redline, Motul are small companies compared to the big companies out there that are certified. So if their product works why would they spend money to get certified for one manufacturer.

Been running Redline 5w-20 for a week or so now and I'm happy with it. Didn't notice much difference (only 10k on the engine, didn't have a tick or anything). It does run smooth and sound good though, will fill again!

Also keeping an eye on the 5w-30 folk...I'd like to go there but want to use up more warranty first and get my tuner so I can disable MDS.

I think I'm going to start mixing in a quart or two of Redline in with my PYB for the hell of it...can't hurt.

I thought about doing this as well. You're basically adding a good synthetic base, more Moly, and more zinc to PYB.

A lot of people using Mobil 1 here according to survey. Doesn't claim to meet spec.MS 6395. Are you worried about warranty coverage? Anyone used Mobil 1 on a 5.7 Hemi consistently and beyond 100000 miles? Any problems?

Benn using it since day 1....as stated earlier, if ya change your oil frequently enough, you could use dinosaur wizz and still have a protected motor.:)

This is what is bothering me. I just picked up a 2015 Big Horn and have been thinking about oil changes. I still have a 2003 5.7 coming up on 240,000 miles. I have always run Mobil 1. I would like to continue running Mobil 1 in my new Ram but am concerned about potential warranty issues since Mobil 1 is not rated to MS-6395.

I think it depends on the dealer. Mine will look for ANY way to get out of warranty work. Others probably wouldn't care.

eh, throw some mopar crap if need be, but I wouldn't break a sweat, ya already have over twice the mileage that ordinary trucks die at with m1.......proof is in the pudding.

Ask some questions around the subject without actually penetrating it.

I actually took my own Mobil 1 Advanced Full Synthetic to my dealer, as well as my own filter, and had them change it using that. They didn't blink, and no warranty issues were ever mentioned. My first service writer (who sadly left) even complimented my choice of oil. I never asked him to put that on paper, but I have no doubt he would have if I'd asked.

I intend to put Mobil 1 in my next Ram when I buy it, unless I find a smoking deal on something better. Mobil 1's a really good oil, and it can be had just too cheaply -- at Walmart, among other places -- to ignore (for me, anyway).

[EDIT: I used K&N filters because it's the only ones with synthetic media I could find for the Pentastar. On the Hemi you have more options, and Royal Purple seems to be the best.]
