You know what is disappointing about that list? Look at the effort the manu's put into their oils, then look at Mopar oil, lol. Sad. I guess it isn't that bad, at least they have great moly. I would however like to see Mopar do something bold, especially for the hemi, like Toyo did with their oil.

Well, I think we pretty much knew Mopar oil is just re-badged whatever manufacturer they have a contract with. PQIA tested Pennzoil Yellow Bottle (conventional) and the numbers are a match to the Mopar stuff. If you Google the Mopar oil part number, you'll land on a cross reference PDF file that shows what Mopar oil equals what Pennzoil oil.

As far as the Toyota oil, that IS their regular oil. My wife's Lexus ES350 is spec-ed for 0W-20 and a 10K mile OCI per Toyota and thats the oil the dealer uses. A little long of an OCI? Maybe, but its still under warranty so Ill pay the dealer 100.00 for an oil change once a year. If there is ever an issue, they can handle it. Once its out of warranty Ill probably go to a 2x/yr OCI (regardless of miles, because we only put 8-10K per year on the car), but I will still gladly use the genuine Toyota 0W-20 if I can get a decent deal on it.

Yeah a little long oci, is her lexus DI Turbo? I wouldn't want to do a 10k mile interval w/o a blackstone report. It likely can cause problems when you are out of warranty if you ran it out of tbn a couple times. If it isn't a di turbo, you can always drop a can of bg moa at the 8k mile mark, insure you don't run out of tbn, no downside. I see the oil has a starting tbn at 10, which is great, but I would still do a least one uoa.

Non-turbo, its the 3.5L V6 that Toyota/Lexus have been using basically forever.

Part of the reason we bought the car is that the powertrain is so mature its pretty much perfected by now (6 speed automatic, 3.5L normally aspirated V6).

Ill try to grab a sample of oil the next time I get a chance, car has about 25K miles on it and about halfway through the current OCI so now is a decent time to sample.

I would actually wait to 8k miles if I was on a 10k mile interval, but that's me. It will be more representative of tbn at the end of your run.

Will do! Ill check the exact mileage tonight. We bought the car in July of '15 and have basically been going around that same date for oil changes and are usually just about at 10K miles each year, so right now might be around 7K miles.

We are going on vacation in June leaving here in N.E. Tennessee .. Bristol and going to Carlsbad , Nm. , then to Colorado springs ,Co. , then to Kansas and finally to Clarksville, Arkansas ...all family visits and then back home here in Bristol . Round trip is about 3,400 miles . Plus driving around miles while at destinations..so +600 ish?
About 4k total @ 98% easy interstate miles at 75- 80 mph with the occasional 110+ mph while passing idiots [emoji106]

We will be taking Her 16 Challenger with the 5.7L . She will have about 2500-3000 k on her oil ( Redline 5W-30) at the time of departure .
I'm thinking I'm gonna change the oil prior to the trip ? Mainly because the engine is still so young at just under 14,000 miles and still producing break in wear #s on the last UOA .

WHAT SAY YOU GUYS ???? Change the oil PRE or POST trip ???

I'd change it before you go, never hurts to have fresh oil in the engine before a long trip like that. Might even consider changing it when you get back as well.

That's what I'm going to do when we go to CO in August. I'm going to change the oil, rear diff fluid, and drain/fill the transmission about a week before we leave.

Easy miles I say after. You would still be at 6500 miles then with redline, you are good. But Corey is right, never hurts to have new oil.

I just looked at her uoas and I think I'm gonna drain the oil and just not change the filter in an attempt to get some more copper out .
I just don't like the idea of having all that copper & iron in the oil for an additional 4k miles .

The 1rst one was the factory fill , surely a 20 wt oil . Wish I had dumped it much sooner !

The next two are a mixture of REDLINE of 20 & 30wt RL can't remember the ratio but it was either 50/50 or 4ea 20wt & 3 ea 30wt.

Just under 10k, 25 mos. The other sample 10k, 24 months but had a filter change at 14 mos. We will see, hopefully I get it. if not, I am done with uoa's for a while, I kinda have my combo and I'm pretty comfortable especially since I will like be doing 18 month intervals from now on, which would be like 7500 miles.

Don't forget where Blackstone is (Indiana?) they've had a lot of storms and the shipping might have been delayed...

Great point Corey.

I would say this, if something surprising comes up in the uoa, then I would continue with uoa's. That would either be very good uoa, or very bad uoa, but if it follows suit, I am pretty busy these days to keep worrying about oil. All of this of course because I hit the hemi tick lotto, or likely I would have posted here once or twice and never worried about oil, lol.
