I bought my 2012 Sport for 2 reasons ... Body colored everything on the exterior, and bucket seats with a center console shifter ... Hard to imagine some dork in Detroit thought it would be cooler to replace THIS with a knob on the dash ... WTH ?!?!5d0bc4be9b09578f4190a6b5708a2681.jpg

FPNI, and since it doesn't affect your truck, what's the big deal? You might decide on something other than a RAM for your next vehicle.

Well I always thought the center console shifter was *** myslef. I like the column shifter. So a knob shifter ain’t much of a change for me. Trucks have column shifters or manuals. Change my mind :anitoof::anitoof::anitoof:

And monkeys might fly out of my butt ... My next one will be my 4th ... Just a personal observation ... I like resting my hand on the shifter while I drive, and it makes the manual shifting a lot easier ... To each his own ... Won’t stop me from gettin another one with a knob ... Who knows what it will be in a couple years tho

I'm the same as Bowers.....like resting my hand on the shifter while driving. Still love the Ram even without the shifter on the console though.

That's the best shifter setup I ever had for towing. (and I've had many over the years) Just a quick left or right action changes gears fast. My current button shift on my 2500 column shifter sucks as I'm always trying to find it when up or down shifting.

What kind of a big **** contest would be complete without a console shifter? I know the first thing I'm gonna do when i see a fella driving with a dash knob, is demand his man card. :)

X2.....and like the OP, I also prefer a console shifter. Maybe because my cars are manuals and have floor shifters. And heavy duty Rams do not come with a console shifter in any trim level or option package. You can get a console, but no console shifter in the HD's. So I converted my 2500 from column to console shifter.

I didn't buy a 1500 because I hated the knob shifter plus I couldn't get the grill inserts I wanted with projector lights.

Since joining ram forums, I've come to realize how easy it is to change the inserts. I took the grill off when I put LED lights behind the grill also.

Anyway, back on topic. Dial shifters just seem wierd fo me. I think the truck should read the driver's mind instead.

Nice job. What kind of expense did you have in that?

Nice job. What kind of expense did you have in that?

Well the cost will be somewhat variable on a couple of factors:
1) Do you have a console already.....I did
2) The year of your Ram......even if you have a console, the 2016 and newer Ram's (my Ram is a 17) have a slightly different top piece. In the pic I posted you will see the top trim piece has square edges. That piece and the top of the console underneath it had to be changed since the newer Rams have a rounded opening (look closely at Infantry Vet's pic and you can see the difference).
3) Which shifter version you pick. I got the leather one. The shifter part is the most expensive. There are non leather ones.

So your costs can run 400-700 and more if you use new OEM parts. Here is a thread (warning: it is long) that goes over the mod: https://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/...shifter-center-consol-shifter-conversion.html

There are several threads just like this one dating back years ago lol

https://www.ramforum.com/threads/consensus-on-the-rotary-shifter.39090/

https://www.ramforum.com/threads/do-you-like-the-rotary-shifter-more.82089/

Did you know they don’t have a power steering pump any more and that it’s electronic steering now?

Did you know there’s no transmission dipstick?

Everything is drive by wire now on the LD trucks so it doesn’t matter what style the handle/knob or where it’s located, there isn’t a linkage connected from the shifter to the transmission.
