So I just got my truck back last night from the dealer after that U53 recall and an oil change. The inspection comments said that there was evidence of rodents. Sure enough I popped the hood and it looks like some mouse/rat turds on the battery blanket/cover. And the plastic engine cover has **** stains and little prints. I had a few turds on the blanket after purchasing the truck (1.5 years ago) but haven’t ha a a problem till now. Any suggestions for keeping them the hell out?

Ha. Your air filter box is probably full of nuts and seeds.

I suppose some rat poison under the hood would be a good start. Just hope they don't crawl into the heater vents or blower motor to die.

Someone will probably be along shortly with some better ideas...

If it's the smaller variety rodent (mice) maybe strategically placed mouse traps dosed with peanut butter as bate will draw them away/out of the truck. It's what I've used in the past in the garage. You could also place them under the hood if you had a way to ensure they were secure I guess.

I just hope they don't have a peanut butter allergy!

Or...you could "Put a Tiger in your Tank" and get 'em that way.

Ya gotta be fairly old to get that one, lol.

Clean out the engine compartment, drive it more, park in a different spot... poison is reactionary - try to think more proactively

In short, don't make it the easiest or most convenient place for them to call home.

Chevrolet has had a long standing problem with rodents under the hood.

I'm a mouse motor guy but, does my heart good to see a Chevrolet Orange Rat once in a while.

Pic is for the young guys out there that scratched their heads on my last post.

Yes, there was "ss" before "xx". You could find it on the fenders of my Camaro too.470aedb0cff9654c80d0f192c8f207f2.jpg

Here’s the thing, I drive it to work every day, so that’s at least 5 days a week. I work early so I’m at work before the sun comes up. I don’t really have anywhere else to park, even there right in front of my garage or off to the side of it. If I park off to the side I do feel like it’s more vulnerable. I plan to clean up the mess, and I bought some little mint packets to maybe shove under that battery blanket. Maybe even plant some mint on the side of my garage lol. I didn’t have this problem with my old truck, and I drove it less.

About 5 yrs ago, I fire up my Harley after a long cold Winter and proceeded to shoot
one mouse skeleton
a bunch of strange looking stuffing and about a dozen acorns across the shed.

Point is, you cannot keep a mouse out if he wants in. Ya gotta KILL 'EM with extreme prejudice! Lol.

So this may sound dumb, but if you are going to park it for a while, get some bars of Irish spring sport soap, the green one, and chunk them up and put them around the car/under the hood, in frame rails. Mice can’t stand the smell of it.

Kept many of campers from getting destroyed by mice/rats.

I have that issue with mice with my Ram or GTO if I keep the hood shut in the garage for a couple of days. My solution is to keep the hood open when parked in the garage, if it's open they can't hide as easy.
Back in 2005 mice ate a big hole in a brand new air filter two days after installing it in my 2001 Dakota. My solution was to cut a piece of aluminum gutter guard screen to fit the back part of the factory air box intake horn.
A few years ago at my parents lake house my stepfather had issue with mice eating the wiring harness of his Silverado. His truck was parked outside under the car port. He had to have it towed to the local dealership almost thirty miles away. His solution was to put a rubber snake on top of the battery = no more issues with mice eating wires.

We had an issue with mice on the wife's wrangler when we had to park it outside for about 2 months. I stuffed a few fabric softener sheets around the battery, and a couple of other places, and that seemed to take care of the problem.

My Grand National spends most of the winter in the garage covered up. Mice love the vac lines and coolant caps. My wife uses moth ball bags out at the ranch to keep the mice out of her tack closet. She made me up some bags that I put under the hood. Works perfect.

You can get rodent repel tape. I know Honda sells it. It is infused with the chemical that makes hot peppers hot. Made to be wrapped around the wiring so the critters don't chew through it.

Unfortunately I get it, so I guess I'm fairly old :(. The old Esso gas slogan. Most probably haven't even heard of Esso unless they're from the great white north
