my factory batteries gave up their ghosts

1 - Is there something everybody should know ? 2 - Not horrible life out of a factory battery 3 - “batteries” ? You have more than 1 ? 4 - Is a new Duralast Gold really gonna break the bank ?

went ahead and replaced both

ended up about 400 from auto zone they only had 2 types that would fit the old truck, and figured the price diff between ok and best wasnt that much diff. i think a 40.00 diff and 3 year vx 1 year warranty

Bought new in Aug. 17, failed in Nov 20, 3 years approx. AGM=200 bucks. They seem to give almost no warning signals.

i figured it was coming up ran fine tuesday , didnt go anywhere yesterday and wouldn't start today
guess them cold weathers finally got the best of the batteries

I'll soon find out when this weather gets colder!!!!

I think alphaOBD can check battery life??? level?? it checks something about the battery

My 2016 still has the factory battery in it at 54,100 miles. Tested it last week at 61%.
So I figure by next fall it will be ready for a new battery.
Over the years I have had good luck with the ever start batteries from Wally world.
But I have had even better luck with sears die hard batteries, had one that lasted seven years and when it died, it died hard.

When my battery was 7 years old, it still started fine. But I figured the end was near. So I swapped it out.

Just about everybody here would love to have a 2500 CTD; until you factor in the cost.

My 11 15 & 16 still have original batteries. My 14 has already been changed.

I'm going to do the big cable kit on my 11 and 14 to see if that will make any difference. I've been expecting my 11 to give up the ghost any day but it keeps whipping the starter so I keep using it.

I've never had a battery last as long as the one in my 11. I have no clue why it's lasted so long

No, it's 12v. Cummins pickup trucks have been 12v for as long as I can remember, at least 25+ years

With modern cars and electronics, the "No Warning" scenario is usually the way it goes these days. Never know you have a problem until it's terminal..(Pun intended )

My stock battery is almost 3 years old, 50k miles, and several heavy winching operations. I don’t have dual batteries, but I do have dual alternators, which actually concerns me more. When one goes up, I don’t imagine I’d have any way of knowing until the second one fails, and then I have to replace them both simultaneously. Still the price you pay for as much electricity as possible with a winch.

The Cummins starter and chassis have a 12v system. The engine requires more cranking amps which requires two batteries.
