In these times I thought it would be helpful to have a list of used car factory warranties posted. I think used car warranties are just as or maybe more important then new car warranties. I tell ya, I'd feel a lot more comfortable having a 2 year warranty then buying a car as is.

Funny you should post this query, as I was just looking into this very subject yesterday for my wife's minivan. (It's hard to come to a definitive conclusion from the online reviews, as they could be skewed.)
Uh oh...forgot to mention what oil I'm using...Redline 5w30...(remember, this is an oil thread!)

Hey you bunch of lunatics. I've been gone a bit. Retired, been working on the house and playing some acoustic AMERICAN music.

My 2016 Hemi is now at 80,000 miles, several trips to Louisiana. (wife's mother was ill, and then she passed) It's been on Amsoil SS 5-20 except for the first year or so I used a PUP blend of 5-20 and 0-40.

The Amsoil has served me well, I remember some here don't like it, but she's quiet and smooth. Love that 5.7 on a road trip, instant power and passing speed. Guess it (the 5.7) won't be around much longer, the envirowhackos are determined.

Oh well, just checking in, hope all are well.

So with the new spec, 0w16 gets it's own designation GF-6 "B" because it isnt backwards compatible on anything. So here is the question, why did they chose only 0w16 and not 5w16 or 10w16 or even 20w16? 0w16 must have vii's? They have 5w20, 10w20, and 20w20 oils, bot 0w16 only gets a 0 winter rating. This must have been discussed somewhere, any ideas?

So here is the question, why did they chose only 0w16 and not 5w16 or 10w16 or even 20w16? 0w16 must have vii's? They have 5w20, 10w20, and 20w20 oils, bot 0w16 only gets a 0 winter rating. This must have been discussed somewhere, any ideas?
It would be interesting to see more info about 0w16 synthetic being that's what Toyota is using in my wife's highlander, have not seen much about it, I don't like digging around BITOG web site...

Viscosity starting at 7 instead of 9 we see historically with 5w20. It actually has a bigger swing winter rating to weight, which means I wonder if it will shear some. I mean I never thought we would see engine oil match these multi vehicle atf's that can be thin because their function is to flow and pressurize switches. Engine oil has to protect banging metal. I would feel better if that suv was a 4 cylinder, but I would be inclined to at least go 20 weight if that was my wife's car, especially in a v6. I went to 5w30 in the wife's toyota, it went from a rattle trap to butter smooth. Lubegard will be thicker then 0w16, that's crazy. If I was gonna go with 0w16, I'd get a uoa and add some lubegard biotech. Bitog has it's uses, I encourage you to look up stuff there when you need to, as 0w16 has no use on this forum.

Yes, she did what she wanted. She actually played music too, and would do a lot of volunteer work. Good old gal.

I am sticking with pup and biotech, served me well so far, trucks quiet and drives like a new. I got banned from bit og, posted 1st post and ones responding were condescending, rude and making fun of my post. Mod comes on, never says anything to the ones being rude, tells me it's in my head, that adding tylenol to oil or ****** would do same thing. So I was done at that point, told them to close post. When I said mod was being a A, that got me banned, plus they said I put $$ next to A so I knew I was bypassing the word checker. Some crazy forum I don't want to be part of.

Toyota holds firm to the 0W's for some reason. Maybe it's for U.S. EPA, but since Toyota makes principally small vehicles, why would they need to? Very strange.

Good point that Toyota makes mostly small engine cars and EPA requirements.

It’s funny that you mention that because I’ve been studying on the same thing for awhile now. I bought the ole lady a new Camry back in January and of course it also uses the aforementioned 0w16 oil. I did the first change at 5K miles and used Amsoil OE 0W16 in it thinking maybe, just maybe it would be a little quieter but it’s still pretty noisy. I see in the user manual where it says that 0W20 can be used but it can only be run for 5K and then has to go back to 0W16 on the next run. What’s your take on that, Burla? I would just as soon run 0W20 or 5W20 all the time but the warranty is going to be a problem for the next 5 years since it’s new and only has 7600 miles on it now. I tried looking on BITOG but that place gave me a headache real quick.

I read somewhere Toyota went to all 0w oils to force synthetic oil to be used in all their vehicles. Cant remember where I read that tho. I doubt its for fuel economy, the difference between a 0w and 5w is negligible at best.

I did the first change at 5K miles and used Amsoil OE 0W16 in it thinking maybe, just maybe it would be a little quieter but it’s still pretty noisy. Agree warranty can be a problems as they give you your first 4 synthetic oil an filter changes for Free an my wife's car came with extra oil changes...

man, that is a new kind of stupid telling someone 0w20 can only be used for a run. maybe live with it til the warranty is up? then move straight to 5w30 if you dont get a CEL.
