Does anyone have any experience changing the front diff input shaft seal?
I had new tires installed drove home and had a dripping gear oil, backed the truck out of the garage and it slowed to a seep. I wiped it clean today and checked it 3 hrs later and nothing.

Does this require pulling the gears out to get to the seal?

Thanks.

No you do not pull the gears. You will need to remove the large nut that holds on the yoke on to remove the yoke. This gives you access to the seal. R&R for the seal is pretty straight forward. You should get a new nut or at the very least put some Lok-tite on it to keep it from ever backing off.
You will also need to re-torque the nut to spec and do not over-tighten it because you may damage the crush sleeve.

On the nut there should be a “ Groove” and you can use a punch to smash down part of the lip of the nut into the groove on the shaft to keep it from moving..
Than again I could be wrong, last time I did a input shaft seal was 2003 and it was on a Toyota.

you dont torq the nut on a crush sleeve type of axle. its a torq to rotate method. but your better off just marking the nut with a paint pen and removing it with a strong impact like milwaukee fuel. replace seal and tighten nut so marks line up
