OK so I just bought a new 2020 2500midnight edition big horn and since day 1 it rattles from bed area.I was driving it last week and happened to be looking in sideview mirror when it was rattling and itlooked like bed was going to fall off nothing seems loose and of course in typical fashionnpf at dealer.Im not bragging but I spent$56,000 on it and to have it sound like im driving $500 rattle trap is ******* me off. Isee some one tighted some bolts in a another posting where these on the bedand did it work?

I hope someone figures this out. Mine does too. The only thing I can add is that it stops if weight in the bed or towing trailer(using weight distributing hitch). I was off on a trip pulling trailer with a bunch of stuff in the bed and never heard it once for 3 weeks. Got home and emptied out and it’s back. I guess I could just buy some bags of sand, but I gets under my skin.

My 2019 2500 HD does the same thing. It has done this since the second week I have owned it. I usually have weight in the bed and typically don’t hear any rattling. When the bed is empty is when I notice the rattle. I have been all over the underside checking mounts and the running boards. I even took my hitch out of the receiver and removed my bed cover. Still rattles. Based on my checking and reading other posts, I believe my rattle is coming from the tailgate. There happens to be a small amount of play in the tailgate when it is latched. This play is up and down, not in and out. My next check is to remove the tailgate and see if that stops the rattling. I will try this in a couple days when the snow stops coming down.

no difference when towing but i have noticed with a lot of weight in bed it calms down. I’m still shocked at how much the bed moves as i said it looks like it’s loose from frame.

Have you checked the bed mounting bolts?

Have you checked in with your dealer on the issue?

The mounting bolts on my bed seem good, but that is a subjective statement because they may be bad and it’s not visibly obvious to me whether they are good or bad. The way I’m going to test this is by taking the tailgate off and seeing if I still hear a rattle. There is a very noticeable play in the tailgate when it is in the latched position, by lifting it up and down. However, I can’t test the tailgate theory until some of the snow melts. I currently have 8 inches of snow on the ground and it is like driving on a pillow. If removing the tailgate removes the rattle, then the tailgate is the source. Otherwise, the rattle is coming most likely from the mounting bolts on the bed.

checked bed bolts all tight
dealer doesnt seem to be interested in figuring out what it is they claim there is a tsb on clunk noise but it has to do with body mounts. The bed bolts right to frame which again makes me wonder why the bed moves so much.I slammed 2 big pieces of foam between gate and bed sides i’m going to see if that does anything.

i don’t know but it’s making me insane i’ve driven GMC for years and never had noise issues. I bought the ram cause the same truck in a gmc was $8000 more.Ram is SO close to taking over if they just up the build quality a little bit. I’m going to keep hounding dealer till fixed truck is great besides noise issue!

boy this sure sounds like my noise

This is exactly what I hear when I am driving over a slightly choppy or minor bumpy road unloaded. I think you have saved me the effort of taking my tailgate off!?

Hi all, I apologize that you are experiencing this concern. If it would be of interest, our team is always a private message away and we are more than willing to escalate a case on your behalf to a specialist who can work alongside the dealer and yourself while your truck is in service.

It’s probably cab mounts popping and it just so happens it does it on harsh bumps that make the bed look like it’s moving.

If the bolts are tight the bed is not moving. The frames on these trucks are also very stout. What makes the bed look like it’s moving is the stiff rear springs, soft stock shocks, and 60+ PSI in the rear tires. The springs and tires really blow right right though the stock shocks making for a jarring and harsh ride empty. Weight really tames that down.

Mine occasionally popped before I put Thuren’s soft ride 2” coils and Fox shocks in the front. Haven’t heard it since. Dropping the rear tire pressure to 45 PSI empty also helped tame the bounce. I’m going to put Fox shocks in with the stock rear springs.

again not bragging but i spent $56,000 on this truck and there is NO way i’m spending any $$ on a noise that RAM should have already fixed last year.I would love to know where these mounts are made i have a feeling it’s not here. My dealer found a tsb for new redisigned mounts but might not be till january till it comes out

Sorry to bump up this old thread but has anyone made progress on this issue? Our 2019 1500 was just in for an oil change and to have this same noise looked at…. They tightened the bed mounts on the drivers side and a few other things and said it was fixed … it’s quieter but still there. Would be curious if there was any sort of 100% for it :)

This may have nothing to do with the Ram 1500, but may be worth looking at.
Check the different shields, around the drive shaft & exhaust
