I’ve been lurking here for awhile and have used a lot of info to swap out my cam and lifters after I had a roller bearing go out that chewed up a cam lobe.

I just finished buttoning up the engine and it turned out great! Except now that I don’t have the MDS solenoids plugged in, it’s throwing about 8 codes related to the MDS. The truck runs just as it was, but I really want those codes gone.

I’ve looked into the Diablo Sport tuners and they can disable MDS on a custom stock tune, but from some other stuff I’ve read, the engine still does a self check when it starts up.

I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience doing the same thing and if the check engine lights actually went away after disabling the MDS in the tune. I don’t want to spend $400 to have the problem persist.

The CEL won’t just turn off. You’ll need a custom tune with the MDS disabled and those codes disabled.

Great to know! I pretty much am keeping it stock with just the MDS delete. So stock tune flashed on with the MDS system fully turned off should work. I’ll update on Thursday after I have the tune done!

Just got it tuned to day from a local guy, I believe he used HP Tuner to do it.

A few notes: If you leave out the solenoids, you must have the 8 codes deleted from the startup check so that they won’t turn on the check engine light.

Apparently the MDS and ECO light are independent of each other. I got a little freaked out when it came on thinking it was still cutting fuel and spark to 4 cylinders, but the ECO light will come on below 20% throttle no matter if the MDS is active or deleted.

So far it runs great with the new NON-MDS Cam and Lifters. Looks completely stock in the inside, no codes and the ECO light still turns on!

So what if you have the MDs delete plugs do you have to remove them and than clear the code or what are referring to when you say startup check so they want turn on I’m experiencing the same issue I used the AMS delete kit in my 2014 Ram running great I toned it to 87 but I can’t get the engine light off. Thank you in advance for a response.

If you are running a diablo or superchips etc, just disable mds

I gotta do the Cam swap very soon..
Thinking to go mostly Stock version.
Can I ask you what Cam did you choose for your non-MDS ?
I am thinking to open up and change all the lifters with nonMDS and non-MDS Cam.
Just wondering what cam option I have and if tuning is required.

Thats not how that works with a cam swap with MDS delete. You need a custom tune.
Then how is mine working?
Mmx no tune required non mds cam, mds block off plugs, non mds lifters, superchimps tune with mds turned off. No codes, no issues
