I presume the vinegar, being a weak acid, would remove some scale, but not sure if it's any good on cast iron rust scale. It is good for calcium and maybe aluminum oxide?
I've never actually tried it,i just know that was what he used to do. It sort of makes sense though.

I think it would do alright for cleaning some scale, especially with a little heat behind it.

We have used it at my job to clean light surface oxidation off small steel parts, and it performed quite well.

IMO, since it is not super strong, it shouldn't be harsh on the system either, and can be diluted easily as well.

JMHO, I have never tried it, though. I am leery to use some commercial flushes/cleaners in older, more abused engines for fear of making things worse.

Normally I drain through both the block plug and radiator and flush a couple of times with distilled as I do on my other V8's. If there's a block plug on my 6.4L then it's either blocked from access above the solid front axle, gravel shield, disconnecting sway bar, and the factory winch. Being on 35's tires it would be a long reach to access unless I have an orangutan mechanic assistant. I'll drain from the radiator and refill with 50/50.

My 2018 5.7 1500 is a little over 5 years from build date…going to drain the radiator and fill. Will then do the same every 3 years. A partial drain works fine if you don’t let the coolant become totally depleted.

I actually talked to the shop I just dropped my truck off at this week. I asked them what they would charge to do a heater core flush along with flushing out my entire cooling system. They quoted me around $450 to do it all. It reminded me why I do things my self and that I would just do it this spring when it warms up a little.
450.00 WOW
I had mine done not to long ago at dealer for 300.00.
Only reASON i Ddid heater core I had no air flow on drivers side vents, and it fixed the problem just fine.
