Maybe operator error but I doubt it.

Most of the time the crazy uconnect says HOME not available even if sitting still in park. Then it will sometimes say MEDIA is not available once again in park. Same for CLIMATE.

Other times those settings are available, again when in park???

Is there something wrong with Uconnect? It is behaving like the software had bugs. Or is there a simpler answer.

Ram Cares listening?

Shortly after I got my RAM 2020 I was surprised to find that RAM was at the top of the quality rating charts for all vehicles. Not just trucks but everything build to drive on the road. And not just at the top, but WAY above the top. A few months later it fell to middle of the pack. Reason given? The radio. Fortunately, I've seen extremely rare issues in my 12" UConnect unit, but the one time I did a quick reset of the unit worked and I've not seen anything since. Ask your dealer how to do a full reboot/reset, which normally doesn't happen when you turn the truck off, as it is always leaching a small amount of power to do certain functions with remote services and other minor details. Just pulling the battery doesn't do this either as it still retains some data while without power. You can Google this too.

When I took delivery of my 2022 RAM, the Uconnect 5 system seemed to be goofy. Items would come and go, for example, gas prices on the map. Someone on some forum suggested a master hard reset, I did it, it took a few days for the system to settle down but 2 years later, no issues with Uconnect 5 unless they do an over-the-air update which can be a coin toss. Usually, it takes a day or two for the system to stabilize.

Interestingly, in the early 90's, both of my vehicle had no radio. It was coincidental, because I hadn't removed them.
One vehicle was a 1976 Suburban, and the other was a 1974 Volvo 144.
I had lots of "alone time" to mull things over as I drove the freeways and byways of the Houston Metropolis. I never had a nervous breakdown due to not being "entertained" during my driving experiences, and since there was no GPS, I carried maps. (Remember those?)

Today, I have an iPhone and it has google maps, and my 20 year old hoopties that I own and drive have only barbarically base radios, which are turned off for the majority of my driving. (I DO listen to Saturday Zydeco on NPR from 7-10 AM on Saturday mornings, though.)

Additionally, I do not have adaptive cruise control, lane keeper, automatic cosmic earthquake predictors, ESP services, TV, nor do I stick my nose in my cell phone every 2 seconds, as many drivers do. I just pay attention to my driving and practice defensive driving, like my dearly departed DAD taught me back when we used crank handles to raise and lower the windows, We used another lever to select which gear we wanted. We used a button to lock and unlock the doors... and it was NOT an electric switch button. The result is 52 years of driving and only one at-fault accident in February, 1998, a minor one where I rear ended a Ford F150 due to slick roads and a malfunction of my ABS.

My current cars have electric windows and door locks. Only one has electric seats including seat heaters. Do not mis-interpret my stroll down memory lane as criticism or condemnation for these new fangled gadgets.... Just that they are distractive, and unnecessary toys. And the manufacturers are having a financial hey-day at the public's insatiable appetite to have all these toys so they can drive and not remain acutely focused on the task OF driving. It's a pragmatic thing to me. I'd druther not walk, take Uber, ride a horse, so I drive a vehicle which drains my finances enough without dealing with other issues which I do not need nor desire.

I do respect these choices for others, but wonder how we EVER got where we were going in those Roman Chariots of yesteryear safely and accurately. ;)

P.S. I just watched a video where manufacturers are considering subscription fees FOR using seat heaters, U-connect type infotainment, remote start, among others! Hoo Boy! I can forsee heated reactions to that! And that has no fees attached! ;)

U5 has many bugs, as well as U4.

There is bulletin for rear camera on U5. Same issue on U4 but no update for fix. I posted before sometimes nothing on screen will work. I can't turn off heated seat/steer wheel.

Pic of back up Camera.... does this once or twice a month. the little dot is from my phone, not camera. Turn off the truck, move far enough away with key, wait 5 mins., It works again.

I understand the possible reset, but my truck is just one month old with 1000 mi, so it must have the latest software already. Basically Ram reset it Dec 1 when it was born!

Does anyone really believe that Ram would knowingly produce a vehicle with defective electronics from day 1? Or, if they didn't know, then where's their quality control? Hum.

I thought Ramcares was our advocate. I thought they scan this forum daily. Where is Ramcares?

While Motor Trend and others rate the 1500 highly, I think Consumer Reports gives the 1500 only fair marks due to so many recalls. I haven't given up yet, but I'm wondering.

My 2014 Longhorn had zero elecronic issues at 120k.

Log in to the uconnect and check for the update. or contact the dealer. the website is often wrong.

The truck could be one day old. It could still have updates. It's not like Ram actually makes those parts. They come shipped with whatever version they happen to have.
It's different depts./division and/or company who produce the hardware vs software developers.

Also recalls don't really mean anything.

I like it when they give them the tittle of
“customer satisfaction surveys“

Now a 1200 mi truck.....
Now backup camera not working. That screen was solid blue. Did a hard reset through the uconnect screen and camera has dissappeared entirely.

Making this worse a number of other settings in the "vehicle" screen are gone.
Now gone :
Camera
Brakes
Seats and comfort
Key off

They were all there before the reset now gone.!!!!

I checked the vin on uconnect site and it's up to date. Supposedly.

I pm'd Ram cares to see if the uconnect phantom and erratic action was in Ram's database. They have no clue and are no absolutely help.

Earlier poster referred to camera troubles and a buletin, so any info there is welcome.

How does something like this get through Ram factory quality control? Do they even test uconnect before shipment? Have they no automated software to check features? I think I know the answer.

Anyone else experienced this?

Take it back to the dealer for repair or replacement. Just because the truck is new does not mean the radio has the latest software. Radios like other components come through their supply chain. The various supplier and Stellantis warehouses keep multiple months of supply in stock to make sure the assembly line keeps running.

My experience has been that most forum guys know more about uconnect than the dealers.

I did check the vin on Ram's site and it verifies I have the latest software version. If true, then I'm stuck, and Ramcares doesn't care.
