Yes, it's the typical solution when a diesel 'doesn't meet emissions,' they just make it regen more and use more DEF. Makes it more expensive for the end user. Happened to my dad back in '08 with his F450, it didn't *quite* meet emissions standards so Ford released a PCM update/reflash, suddenly it went from cleaning the DPF once every thousand miles to once every about 400 miles.
The dealer I don't think can go BACK from the updated flash unless it causes other issues. So your options are to have the recall done and have it regen a lot more, refuse the recall, or do a tune/delete.
