So I owned a 2014 RAM Laramie for 6 years and decided to upgrade to a 2024 Rebel GT because it is the last v8 ram will produce for a half ton. I LOVED my 2014 but decided I could get max value you for it right now so it all seemed like the perfect storm and the smart decision. I got a legit 19/23 gas mileage with the 2014.

Theeeen I switched this 2024 RAM rebel GT…. What an amazing truck and engine and sound!! BUT AWFUL GAS MILEAGE!!!!

I am getting 11/14 unless I baby it a ton.

I am curious if anyone has any advice for me?

I have only had it for 300 miles. I’ve driven it 5 days. I am looking into possible performance chips, tunes, etc. recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I signed up for 18/22 NOT 11/14 mpg.

Thanks so much for any all all recommendations. Might just be something I have to swallow at this point. At least gas rates are going down but this is wildly different than advertised.

Appreciate the advice! When I baby it I am going 55 in a 65 and barely touching the gas. I’m still getting 17 at best doing that.

One thing I noticed is that when I am going down hill it coasts like crap unless I throw it into neutral.

I have an Etorque. Has anyone seriously tried chips? I’m thinking about giving it a year to get a better feel but I am seriously considering solely for MPG

The Ram Rebel GT comes standard with 3.92 gears. Your 2014 might have had 3.21’s = highway gears. You won’t ever get the mileage you got before and this might be about what you will always get… maybe another 1-2 max once it’s broke in.

That's probably accurate. My 2017 Sport with 3.92's saw 14-15 around town and would kiss 20 on the highway if I was lucky. That all went out the window when I whipple'd it.

Should I even think about a performance chip?

Good stuff. Love the name! Betty White lol. Mine is black Betty. She is black obviously and eats gas for breakfast!

You ‘ll have greater milage if you learn how to balance the throttle you’re correct about needing rolling resistance , air up your tires and use a non ethanol fuel , how often you drive also calculates into fuel savings.

Same here. 2024 Rebel GT. Gas mileage is not what was advertised, but I never thought I was buying an economy vehicle.

My last Rebel was a 2017 with 3.92s also, but this one does seem to get worse gas mileage than that one did. Even though I put larger tires, and wheels, and left the air suspension in the up mode on my old Rebel.

I only have about a 15 mile commute and a bunch of traffic lights to boot. (Work in Myrtle Beach). But damn “Skipper” is a blast to drive.

I’m not overly concerned. I just thought it would be similar to my old Ram because that is what the honest dealer told me lol.
If your old RAM used 3.92 gear ratio , Did you buy it for towing or fuel economy?

For towing,

From the speed 0-30 MPH, 3.92 has higher final drive ratio over 3.21 (18.46 vs 15.12) until it has to shift to 2nd gear at 30MPH.

From the speed 31-38 MPH, 3.21 has higher final drive ratio over 3.92 (15.12 vs 12.31) until it has to shift to 2nd gear at 38MPH.

From the speed 39-47 MPH, 3.92 has higher final drive ratio over 3.21 (12.31 vs 10.10) until it has to shift to 3rd gear at 47 MPH.

From the speed 48-57 MPH, 3.21 has higher final drive ratio over 3.92 (10.10 vs 8. 25 until it has to shift into 3rd gear at 57 MPH.

It is what it is. Get used to the truck. Drive gently (that doesn’t mean slowly). And know your warranty is kaput as soon as you introduce unauthorized software and hardware modifications.
