I installed a 8.4 inch radio to replace my 5.0 about a week ago. I figured out how to fix most of the problems with the exception of the problem I have with the fan controls. I believe this is because the radio I got has dual climate control in the system, and mine of course is a single zone climate control. Is there a way to program this to recognize my truck has a single zone climate control, or do I need to search for a radio that has the single zone climate control installed in its firmware?

You need to use the AlphaOBD, Where are you in Alberta?

Can you give a few more specifics to help try to narrow down what it may be? What year is the truck and what year and type of radio did you install? Did you do the full 8.4 conversion and add the correct wiring with the proper heater control module?

I am in central Alberta. I couldn’t find the option to change from a dual climate to a single climate in Alfa OBD. Where do I find this option?

I got a 8.4 inch radio with CarPlay off a 2019 ram truck, the only compatibility issue that I know of is the USB port in the jump seat will no longer work. I got a kit to install it from infotainment, it has a 4->7 speed wiring harness and resister, along with a HVAC unit. I followed all the installation steps on YouTube, and the climate works for the most part with the exception of the temperature is stuck on “low”. I’m pretty sure that if I change to single zone climate control it should work, as that’s what my truck had before. The bezel that they shipped is for dual climate control, but I was told that isn’t an issue, but if it is I believe that I can get one from a salvage yard that has single zone. If it means anything for the problem in the climate control, I am having problems with the radio turning on when the truck is off but I believe that is a problem to do with wiring in the truck, not the radio as my speedometer cluster also lights up.

The radio should pick up the settings from the BCM and automatically switch to Single Zone which is what your truck's BCM should already beset to. It takes that style radio a while to read everything but it shouldn't take more than a couple of days at the most. Using the Dual Zone bezel won't cause any issues but the Single Zone bezel is the correct one and won't have buttons that won't work like your Dual Zone has. As far as your temp being stuck in low it could be a problem with your HVAC module being incorrect or defective or possibly your harness. Did you use a Genie from Infotainment or some other tool like the Alfa to change your BCM from Manual Temp Control to Auto Temp Control? . You said you switched from a 4 to 7 speed fan. What year and model is your truck? Also I'm not to familiar with Infotainment's harness or a big fan of there products. The harness was developed on this forum and copied. You might want to reach out to Mike @M2mods who is in the vendor section of this forum and builds and helps develop the harnesses that are invented on this forum. He is very familiar with compatibility between different components. Last but not least the radio should not stay on obviously so there seems to possibly be an issue with the radio communicating with the truck.

The radio does not stay on, it starts and stops at random. It does this while the truck is on too.

They key on:
The key off: I do not have a video of this, but what it does is it goes through the start up screen and immediately turns off. It doesn’t get to the point at which you can interact with it. The speedometer also does this though.

I think it might not be programmed into my BCM that it’s a single speed, just because with the 5.0 radio it only comes with single speed, and the bezel has physical locations that determine the temperature of the fan speed.

My truck is a 2013 ram 1500 (ST/tradesman I believe)

I am think the HVAC should be programmed to be plug and play, but I’m not sure that there is something broken with it. It lets me change the fan speed, turn on A/C, defog window, and heat my mirrors. The only problem is the temperature won’t change. I’ll send an email to Mike in the morning and ask for what he thinks the problem may be.

What does Infotainment tech support say? You bought the install kit from them but then go to their competitor for help. Shakes head.

I sent them a support ticket about a week ago, they have responded to that asking for pictures and videos of what’s happening. I sent those on Tuesday and nothing yet.

Hi, I know this is old post but have you solved your problem? I also have 2013 1500 Big Horn with single zone manual controls and installed 2018 radio. BCM told radio what zone I have and after couple of hours is changed from dual to single. So far things work but there are issues. Just like you described, temp controls don’t correspond to the settings on screen. It seems that the min/max settings range is much wider than what shows on screen and I have to push button few times to register anything when it’s set ( on display) to min or max.
My 2013 has SXM with gps antenna but GPS can’t update to current location. Compass works and I need truck icon moving when I drive but map location is off. I wonder if I need to get 4G antenna or if sierra wireless card **** the bed. Oh and my temp on radio is stuck in F when everything else I have is metric ( Canadian truck). When I switch it back to Metric in radio settings, it goes back to US. These are the issues I’m having. Now I’m debating if it was worth going with OEM radio rather than aftermarket which already has CarPlay.
