I have a 2019 dodge ram classic. I was wondering if anybody has used the the gateway bypass cable off of Amazon for 20 bucks? I notice it only has one lead plug, and a bunch of videos I see online have two lead plugs. I know I shouldn’t order parts off of Amazon, but it says it could be here by tomorrow and I’m working on a short timeframe. Please any information would be super helpful.

Hey Dean, appreciate the quick response. I’m trying to update my mileage and engine hours. You don’t think it would work? I’m using alfaobd.

I don’t think I could be any clearer but buy it if you insist on trying it.

This is the best solution for a security bypass cable.

I believe that there is a less expensive bypass cable assembly available from Amazon that is suitable/compatible with Gen 5 trucks.

Unlike the assembly that you purchased, it has 3 connectors and allows for a physical bypass of the Security Gateway Module. The problem is that not all of them work properly and you may be gambling on getting a functional bypass assembly.

I believe that you also must remove that type of bypass for a dealer to be able to use the OBDii port.

The KaodTech is 100% reliable for Gen 4 or 5. I have one permanently installed, the dealer can still use the OBDii connection without any problems.

AFAIK, shipping in the US is included, you can always contact them to ask about any additional costs to rush the delivery.

I used the Infotainment one: https://infotainment.com/shop/interior-accessories/obd-genie-programmers/c-modbyp/

Small, discreet, and I retained use of the OEM OBDII port.

That looks like an interesting device.

The directions make it sound like you install it and remove it after receiving a green indicator light.
Do you require to have the bypass device installed while making changes to your vehicle?

Reading the reviews, obviously, one user had a 4th gen with the SG module buried behind the radio. He was complaining that he had to reinstall the bypass every time that he wanted to make changes. Was he confused?

I have a '21 Warlock (4th gen) and wouldn't fancy pulling out the dash and radio to access the Security Gateway. The KaodTech bypass is connected in the footwell behind the OBDii port.

You have the option of replacing the OBDii port with the bypassed connection but I leave the OEM port intact for dealer visits and tuck the bypassed connection up & behind the knee-plate.

I suppose 4th gen challenges are irrelevant in the 5th gen forum.

kaodtech, recommended by alphaobd, use it personally and it works great.

several good options based on your goal, just stick with what's proven to work (look at the alphaobd thread on this forum) and you won't have problems/waste money.

The gen 4.5 HD trucks have the module behind the instrument cluster. Not sure about 4th gen trucks (LD or HD). I thought that it was somewhat inconvenient way up there under the dash until I learned about the HD truck module location.

You have to leave the bypass in when doing changes. I always remove it afterwards anyway so I don't forget it's in there.

While it's a passive item, most service departments don't know what it is and could flag you for an aftermarket item/programming. Once that's in your truck's "record" it's a death sentence for warranty work.

I've only read of that happening a couple of times but the risk was not worth the convenience for me to leave it in there.

I was able to use a cheapy security adapter on my 2500, but it wasn't right for my 2018. Bought the kaodtech security module then sold the truck right after. They said they offer returns but couldn't be bothered to asnwer my requests. Any i have a brand new one on the box if you still need one.

I used the Single connectorOne on my 2023 Ram 1500 classic. It seemed to work fine, and there's only one Bank to connect to anyway so I wouldn't know what to do with this second connector if I had one. I'm having trouble getting my OBD2 to change configuration but I don't think it has anything to do with the security bypass. I ordered a better interface.
