2020 2500 119,000 miles and the DPF full came on. I realized I should not have been using it as a 2 mile trip to the ice cream shop truck.

I saw the swap post from darrellthomas but I am wondering if anyone has successfully cleaned the DPF without cutting it open. I have 4 vehicles and this one I do not really drive often anymore so I was debating filling it up with a chemical cleaner and leaving it for a day or two and flushing it out and then letting it dry for a week before installing. Not sure if anyone has tried, I want to get the code cleared and the DPF cleaned. Worst case replace the DPF with a new one and then sell this truck as I do not use it as intended enough to justify a paid off truck just sitting.

Edit: considered the deletes as even though I am stationed outside of WA I keep my vehicles registered and no emissions however I do NOT want to risk fines in the future so although I have friends suggesting a delete I do not want to go that route.

I don't suggest you try to put any chemical through the exhaust to clean it. If you want to force it into a regen, find a trailer with a load and take it out on the highway for 50-60 miles of heavy towing. Or possibly take a few hr road trip where you can keep it at a constant speed, preferably with some sort of load on the engine. It should start to clean itself.

Your only real options to avoid DPF issues if you don't tow with it a lot or take long trips are what I mentioned above, trade it for a gasser, or do a delete. Pick your poison.

I you know someone with AFL OBD & security by pass they could force a stationary DPF regen or as stated above try a long heavy haul or pay out $$$ to a qualified shop to split it open an clean it out...

Oh I'd clean it, I'd clean the heck out of it, dawn wash and a hose. See if you qualify got the recall as well. Cant bypass it like you can easily with catalytics with a simple purchase and that totally fixes the CEL forever and ever and none is the wiser, because the dpf will clog.

The enemy of the free world is language and it's misuse. It is clear even in this thread about how to deal with a problem. Carbon if you believe the reason for emissions only is a threat when it is in the air, it is of zero consequence if it is washed and returned to the ground. Do you think if he paid the price at the shop they would send the old system to some toxic waste site where a unicorn will wiz on it and turn into a tree?? Stop drinking the koolaide of language, rainbow stew will let you down. Look at the positive in what's going on, more folks are learning how to handle their own business. Not a bad lesson. Get down there and take an exhaust system off, it certainly wont be as hard as earning 20g's and letting someone else do it.

A few years ago I had a guy price what it would take to cut down a tree, he wanted a grand for about 4 hours work. I bought a chain saw instead, it cut about 30 trees down on my land and now I bought another and still am far from paying that initial grand for one tree. I don't particularly "like" cutting down trees, not from a philosophical point of view but I don't prefer the work. It dangerous, dirty, messy and to complicate it when you live in a higher sun and drought area trees grow out and not up, making it a real cruddy job. I still have about 10 more trees to get where I am going and now years into the process. The property look a million times better and it less of a fire risk something we need here. A problem arose and was solved with the embodiment of one simple but powerful phrase, get er done. The only three words you ever need right there. My religion in three words.

Another gem we can thank the south for is "skeeter did", comes on many forms always with the name skeeter. When you go to shops or have someone price a tree cutting take a look at them, if they can do it you can do it. In the south they say skeeter did that or this, meaning if you cant do it then skeeter is better then you. No fate in the world worse then that, that skeeter can do something you cant. A phrase if used correctly forces you to remove those blockades in your brain preventing you from accomplishing something. Skeeter cleaned out his own exhaust pipes, there ya go challenge made.

Anyone ever use a product by Rislone designed to clean Diesel DPF?
I just added some to a 1/4 tank of diesel fuel.

Well thank you for making it worth going to pg 2 of this thread because of the chit chat just prior, I was hesitant.
Anyways, I myself have not used it but I know of 2 guys that have and claim it lowered the frequency of regens and cleaned the filter more efficiently and maintained it longer. The 2 guys I know of tow 5ers and one is a Ford and a Ram.
Looking forward to how it works for you. Please follow up if you can. Thanks.

Well a bit late for the OP;
There are several ways to clean a dpf. There are numerous chemicals that can be used with water flushes with the dpf out of the truck. Dish washing soap will actually do a decent job on soft soot. Some people have sucessfully cleaned them with high pressure washers cleaning in the reverse direction as the exhaust flow normally flows. Some cleaning chemicals are designed to sit and soak for several hours prior to being back washed.

Obey the law regarding your truck by doing nothing. Changing or deleting the EGR system requires pre-meditation and action on your part to break the law.
cleaning a dpf is much different then deleting one, a person should do any thing he/she feels comptent to do or learn to do.
Do nothing, learn nothing, be nothing
