Bad luck having that happen!!Good deal, @HangmanNY.
When I changed my radiator, it took several times of checking it and adding a little coolant (a few ounces) each time, until the radiator was full.
You do not have to remove the grille to change the radiator, but it makes it ALOT easier to get at the bolts where the condenser attaches to the rad.
Regarding radiator leaks, mine and AT LEAST 8 others I know of, ALL leaked an inch or so below the upper rad hose, right on a mold seam.

Good job getting it done, wish you many miles of enjoyment.
I put new hoses on the radiator. But the way I bought an Astro cable type clamp pliers tool. That came in handy!!! Between the lower radiator hose clamp and the water pump hose clamps that made it easier.
Just arrived in Florida this evening. I’ll check the levels again in the morning.
