'04 5.7L 4x4 Issue

Hi all, new to the forum. I have a question. Started snowing here today, bad, and I was going to use the ole Dodge to get to the store. Went out, warmed it up, started to drive and put into 4x4 Hi, and the shifter moved without any resistance into 4x4 HI. It also did not engage 4x4... After that, the 4x4 shifter will just go through all the gears without any resistance whatsoever. Luckily 2 wheel drive still works.

Any ideas what it could be? I don't really wanna drop a ton of money into it. I have owned the truck for 5 years, and have used the 4x4 maybe 5 times without issue.
