i have a 05 with a 5.7 hemi (quad cab) with a good body and frame but a blown motor, I also have a 97 with a 5.9l (extended cab, short bed) with a good motor but junk body and frame... i wanna replace the 5.7 with the 5.9... question is do the mounts and stuff line up, i already know il be pulling the wiring harness out and pcm of the donor truck... i may do motor and trans and possibly tcase...

Welcome.

My guess is no. Very different motor/trans combo.

There may be motor mounts made for this but nothing I've seen.

You are taking a step backwards doing that. Better finding another 5.7, what is blown on yours? Might be cheaper to fix then you think.

^^ agreed!!

This would be taking a step backwards and way more work that it would be worth. Everything from motor mounts to gauge cluster would need to be swapped. The hemi and 5.9 run on different ECM bus systems so there are lots of things that need changing.

If you search around you can probably find another hemi for a decent price (scored the motor and trans in my 98 for $400) the hemi would definitely be the cheaper and easier route to go.

Anything is possible with enough money and know how. Since you are here asking, I will venture a guess and say at least one is lacking. For starters: mounts are different, transmission is different, entire wiring/PCM setup is different, cooling system is different...the list goes on. By the time you spent the $$ to get this to work, you could have found a used engine (or hell, even a crate engine for the probable cost) that will drop right in, plug and play. Just FYI, any hemi from 03-08 will work, 04-05 being a complete easy drop in. 03's don't have EGR, 06-08's have MDS, all easily gotten around.

I would either get a new crate engine or a good used 05 from a salvage yard. The cost to do the install of the 97 would probably put you into shock.

If the block is good on your 5.7 then its not a bad build to do. You can fully build one of these motors in no time as long as you have a trq wrench and alill know how.
