Hey guys, I was a 3 sheets to the wind the other day and decided to go on an internet impulse shopping spree. saw some wire on ebay and decided I'm going to make my own big 3 kit and have some cable left over for some fat booster cables... so I got these https://www.rockvilleaudio.com/r0g100black/ (no, I didn't get 100'). now, I called the company afterwards and their costumer support stated that it is CCA but it is 30% copper which is way better than most CCA cables. question is, would this be good enough for a big 3 kit and also a booster cable set? not asking about length but quality.

Thanks

Yes it’s fine for a big 3 kit.

It looks to be CCA wire. Copper Coated Aluminum. You will need to up the wire size if you use CCA vs. OFC wire. THe CCA wire doesnt transfer or flow energy as well as the OFC.

Hey brother, thanks! Please read my entire post. It's 1/0 and it is cca with 30% copper vs the usual 15-20%. Much thicker and the wires would be as fat fa fire houses, lol

You should be fine, depending on length and power draw. OFC would have been ALOT better and will last longer too but you should be fine. I run welding cable (best OFC wire you can get) for all my amp installed and car battery wiring. Even 1/0 isnt that fat...

I would test the voltage drop while the music is on, bump it up loud and have a meter on the alt or battery and the other at the amp and look at it in real time to see what the voltage difference is. Should be a real eye opener lol.

Hmm I keep reading that welding wire is not as good as OFC for this application due to the internal wires being fatter than those in the ofc cables... now, I know that CCA is not as good but at 1/0 it should be good enough... hell, XS big 3 setup as well as many others are CCA and not as much copper count as these.

That doesn't make any sense, Welding wire is OFC, its the purest form. OFC just means its oxygen free copper... aka pure copper. welding wire also has the finest strands compared to most cables and thus it has the best current capacity and conductivity. Its also usually way more flexible than most wires of the same gauge and the rubber is EPDM which lasts a long time and impervious to most chemicals. Fun fact.... electricity doesn't travel through the copper cable strands like a tube or straw, it actually travels on the outside of the strands (surface). So the more strands you got in the cable the easier and better it travels. You could easily have gotten away with a smaller gauge OFC cable instead of the larger gauge CCA. So lets say a 4 gauge OFC would prob work better than a 2 gauge CCA wire if all is equal (strands, length etc). Also please do NOT use crimp or screw type terminal ends on the 1/0... use a good copper solder type.

You'll be fine, you could have just gotten away with a smaller gauge wire of better quality thats all. But for ***** and giggles you should test voltage drop just to see.
