I have not been to a dealer with my used 2014 RAM 1500 5.7 4X4 unless it was for recalls.

At 97,000 I got the rear end carrier bearings replaced under warranty.

I have a trusted shop do other work like a trans fluid change and rear diff oil chag at 55,000. I do tow a 5,000# trailer occasionally, and have had the local shop do brake work, and tire rotations. I run 5W-30 synthetic oil and change it about every 7,000 miles with a quality filter.

I am approaching 100K miles and want this RAM to pull my trailer to FL and AL in January, so I am looking to my mechanic shop to do the 16 plug 100,000 mile tune up.

What else needs to be changed out or looked at besides a general safety check at 100K? Asking them to look at belts and hoses plus brakes while they do the tuneup.

I am holding out for complete radiator flush for another 25K miles as that is spec'd for 10 years or 150,000 miles, and the coolant looks fresh still.

The RAM has held up well, but I hope to get another 50K miles out of her at least, so I want to do what is necessary for that to happen.

Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

At 100k i did the following:

Spark plugs
coil packs
transmission fluid AND filter change
diff fluid change
coolant flush and replace
changed belt (Just because it was original)

Other than that. just your normal safety stuff. Checking ball joints. CV boots Etc. If your coolant looks good, and there is no crud in there, i say skip that. Same thing for the diff.

But if the transmission filters are still the original. i would change those out. (If you can even do this on the 8speed, my truck was the old 6 speed)

Some other preventive maint that isnt in the book you could easily do is clean the air intake sensor. Its right above the throttle body on the intake boot. Regular MAF sensor cleaner will do.

Clean out the throttle body bore. Air impurities build up inside and after enough time could hinder the shutter operation by making it sticky or not able to cycle completely from blockage

Inside the air box itself likes to collect debris under the filter, clean that up

Check battery cables torque, clean up the posts and apply some terminal protector spray

Some easy to do tasks and many others that i cant think of at the moment i always do about once a year to keep the ol girl happy

Ram does not recommend 5W30 viscosity oil - it recommends 5W20 oil for your engine, with a certain specification.

ya, I hear ya... I use a quality brand, sometimes 5W-20, sometimes 5W-30... I just bought the 5W-30 cause they were out of the 20W... I add my favorite Motorkote Hyperlube https://motorkote.com/pages/hyper-lubricant additive, 14 ounces to 7 qts oil... no hemi tick in 98,200 miles... ain't changing now... if the dreaded tick starts before 150,000 then I will take the blame, well I will have to pay the price no matter...

so do you have anything to add to my original question ? How many miles on your 2014?

I second the belt change.. it might look good, but will ruin your trip if it fails.. usually the idler bearings are in need of change at the same time.

3rd on Belt change, tensioner bearings, 8qts work well, also the intake manifold bolts check them just lightly tighten them up and there is a torque sequence.

Now at 70,*** miles. At 50,*** miles - I did the rear differential fluid and the PCV valve assembly (OEM part and fluid).

I keep a spare idler pulley, belt and tools in my truck just in case. Torque wrench too but usually they are useless in an engine bay aside from head bolts.

Brake Fluid needs to be changed every 20-30k or 2 years. It’s cheap and often overlooked

I've never " changed" brake fluid.. only flushed out a little when changing a caliper. It is a good idea, but your service interval should be 100k or 5 years.. around the same time they recommend doing the coolant.

Keep in mind, alot of shops upsell services that you don't need for easy money... some shops don't even do the work!

Brake fluid is hygroscopic meaning it retains water. Wearing out and rusting brake systems. Fluid is clear go look at yours and see if it’s brown, then read up on it. It’s pretty interesting I used to not change brake fluid either.
Calipers will last a lot longer, your brakes will feel better, other people on the road will be safer, etc.
that being said I have never in my life had a shop try to upsell me a brake fluid flush

Yes im aware it's hydroscopic.. the trick is not to open the system to let moisture in ( humidity in the air).. thats why the reservoir is see through so you can check the level without taking off the cap.

Like I said read about it. There’s more than hygroscopic properties

@gypsy400 here ya go guaranteed this was never opened. The mater cylinder was relatively new it’s overlooked by many, most places don’t want to do it with abs systems etc. just like the places changing tranny fluid but not the filter because they don’t want to cause problems it didn’t come in with41F97FA9-1097-4616-82B9-3FE035E0C8CF.jpegF652FBE5-821A-41D5-9576-F68C94790C4F.jpeg
