My truck is rolling on about 95K miles, and having swapped the plugs in my wife's Ford Edge Ecoboost today (114K), Im in the mood and thinking about what I need for my 100K tune-up. What else do you guys recomend beyond just the plugs? I know on older trucks there was a laundry list of parts to swap and things to change, but now it seems that there isnt near as much PM on these newer ones as there used to be. Just wondering if Im missing something.

Also, is there any proven advantages to the Ruthenium plugs over the iridium ones?

Thanks in advance.

Just purchased a used 2016 with 92k miles on it. Looking to do the plugs real soon. Just need to order em up so I am interested in what others have used.

Also thinking about doing an oil and pan/filter replacement on the 8-speed ZF8HP transmission as per the recommended intervals from ZF of 50k-75K miles or 8 years.

The transmission filter/oil change is quite a precise and quite involved job that must be done exactly as per the instructions. Unless you feel absolutely comfortable doing the job yourself just have a shop/dealer do it for you or you’ll end up with some issues if it isn’t done correctly

It depends upon whether or not you intend to use the plasmic reticulated warp generator settings on high.
All joking aside, if you do use the ruthenium plugs, keep them when you sell the truck and reinstall the originals! Iridiums are fine!
Put some Techron in the gas tank and replace the air filter..... should be good to go!

This is my reference on procedure(s). Have also watched a few YouTube videos which at the least allows me to train my eyes on what to expect.

I would also be buying this —- ZF Automatic Transmission Oil Pan Filter Kit 1087298247 and 7 Liters of ZF Transmission Fluid (Lifeguard 8 - S671090312) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RKYJ6N1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8TPoFb9EKQZ95 —-

It’s still strange to me why the owners manual shows this tranny as having lifetime oil. Yet, ZF states 50k-75k mile intervals or 8 years.

Read the first highlighted paragraph. These are the instructions that ZF sends with a "brand new " 8 speed transmission

I agree iridium plugs last longer than 100k. I pulled mine at 90xxx ish and realized had I not ordered plugs I wouldn't have continued the install. Save the $120+ it costs for 16 plugs.

PPE pan with filter is not that much more than the oem one, here's my Trans fluid journey https://www.ramforum.com/threads/8-speed-transmission-ppe-pan-install.164598/

Thanks for linking your post on your experience. I have learned quite a bit thru various posts here on this forum as well as on YouTube. When it comes time for me to do this(The Arizona heat is my delay do to procedure when refilling) I feel pretty confident I’ll be able to complete the service without issues.

Question, how much of a difference did it make when shifting? I know you said it’s smooth now but is that a really noticeable difference or just one you could slightly tell because you know your trucks driving habits?

Thanks again.

So you have almost 100k on your truck, most likely transmission fluid wasn't changed in the past as it's expensive and not recommended by the manufacturer. When you drive your truck, you feel when gears are shifting.. 1...2...3... Maybe it's shifting just fine for you and doesn't feel rough... Let's say each shift takes 1 second. Once I changed the fluid, my shifts became maybe 0.3 seconds, so it's much quicker, smoother and feels stronger. I don't drive fast either, just city driving...

I just had spark plugs done too, used ngk iridium I think, got it very cheap from rock auto. Works well for the past month...

So i spend some time doing research on spark plugs on this forum, and got these plugs from Rockauto. Seems like quite a few members use these plugs without any issues... and from what i understand, ngk makes plugs for Mopar/oem? SO basically these are good plugs.

NGK 92145 (Iridium (lasts up to 4x longer than copper)) Laser Iridium Info
Dual Plug; Gap 0.044"; Recommended FCA IRIDIUM OE extended service part
They're only $6.13 each from Rockauto.

Transmission fluid notes from my project:

transmission pan gasket: 68172556AA
MOPAR OEM transmission pan (i end up going with PPE brand, not oem): 68225344AA Includes Filter
ZF oem transmission flud: S671 090 312 01 , i got 9 quarts from Ebay at $20 each, and still got 2 bottles left after replacing fluid for the larger PPE pan which takes 2 extra quarts. So if you get PPE pan, you can get by with 7 bottles of fluid.

Also buy new bolts for the transmission pan as old ones are usually so/so and rusty-ish, not sure what part number will be.

NGK are great plugs, those exact plugs are what I put in mine this past January, at least 10K miles later and no problems with the plugs.

I bought my truck at 106K.
I've changed:
spark plugs
Tranny fluid/ filter (but mine's a 6spd so easy job)
Serpentine belt
Radiator hoses
Rear diff fluid
Rotors/ pads
PCV valve
Air filter

Still need to tackle transfer case (can't loosen fill plug!), front diff, and all 4 calipers.
Other than the hemi tick, it's like a whole new truck lol.
Just some ideas of other stuff to check. :)
