12" U-Connect Voice to Text Feature

I know the 2019 is capable of apple car play and Android Auto, but in my 2015 it was nice to not have to worry about where my phone was and plugging it in. I had voice to text wirelessly through my U-Connect. Even though my 2019 has the menu item for this feature, when I press it, it asks me to use a canned response. FCA should enable this or remove the menu item. Really hope they enable it, because without it, I feel a paid quite a bit for a down grade.

I totally agree. I am so disappointed in this feature being taken away. Don't always want to plug in the phone to be able to reply to messages. Plugging in your phone 2-6 times a day in the vehicle takes away the number of charges the battery is capable of over the lifetime of the phone.

I am not going to go trade in my newish S9 plus for an apple because I bought a new truck. Even if that is an acceptable fix. I don't think a menu item should exist on screen, that doesn't do what it says it does. That is pretty tacky for a large company and a prime product.

Yeah google assistant will work too, but I'm talking about the Uconnect voice to text feature being removed.

So what would be the difference? I assume you would want to the phone to do the text not uConnect

Google assistant needs a confirm button press on my S9. On my 2015 I could just talk freely. Worked great no issues

Do the new 5th Gens not use Uconnect access anymore? That might be why it's not there. I use this a lot on my 2014 but I think they went to Sirius XM guardian or something.

Yeah not Uconnect anymore. I liked the ability of using the trucks mic for replying vs the phone cause if it's in my pocket the phone's mic is not going to work very well.

Well that sucks. I mean I'd find other ways to get voice to text through my phone but the Uconnect access sure is easy and works great.

Well also, I would see no issue with taking it to the dealer and pointing out the menu item in the screen does not work correctly. I realize they are helpless to fix it, but that is not my liability, it is FCA's. The truck does not send a text message with voice recognition as stated on the screen.

2018 8.4 radios are the same. Last time this worked was on the 13-17 8.4 radios.
