Sorry to hear your kit is not the same. First, I would try got get them to exchange it for the one like the others and I got. If you power from the reverse lights, you will lose the factory option of showing the camera for 10 sec after moving from reverse to drive. Your screen will be blue. In my opinion this should work like OEM (less the moving lines). You will also have power connections that are at the rear and subject to corrosion and truly an installation that is not like the OEM as Echomaster says. Finally, my harness was clad fully in a corrugated harness protector for the whole under truck run. I think you may have gotten the wrong harness or for another year.

Others got the same kit as I did. I would try to get them to ship they same. I have a contact/email for customer service at Echomaster if you need it.

Sorry this is not working out.

Yeah, Echo Master just changed their supplier on the wires. They say they had to many reports of faulty wire. They guy at BlueParrot was concerned because the kit they are selling now is deficient that the pwr wire does not reach. To be honest I am not so sure the signal cable will. I am not certain what I will do. Probably spice more wire to the pwr wire I guess. Thinking of avoiding the whole fire wall thing and just come up in the floor of the cab. Maybe through a drain plug and then under trim piece above rocker. Might be a shorter distance.

Asked local dealer if they knew had to make a configuration change to the truck they said yes, but after I was there 45 mins they realized to enable the back-up camera function required the only person there that had the level access required was not actually working, the Service Manger.

How far back can you see with this camera, I am not buying it to watch a hitch I want to see how close I am to stuff.

Thanks

The Echo Master I received is different. The wires are not incased in hardened case an the pwr wire is not long enough. I called Echo Master they said connect pwr to reverse lights but the instructions say not to. So then he told me to connect it to my 7-pin tow connection. Only thing the 12v there is constant, not switched.

So I guess my question is does it matter if the camera has constant voltage? Seems it would wear our quicker.
I wondered about this myself.

I installed the OEM camera in my 2012 and the power line taps into the reverse lights power wire coiming off the PCM.
As I was running the power wire all the way to the PCM, I wondered why you could not just tap the wire back at the lights.

Perhaps they want you to tap it at the PCM because it is better protected from the elements?

and I would have the same concern about running constant power to the camera.

Thanks

Back on page 3 of this topic i posted a detailed instructions on how to turn on the cam at the dealer. any tech can do it. its really only a 15 min job.

i have mine hooked up to the reverse lights. it turns on as i put it in reverse. there is no lag time.

it wont cause any damage to the camera if its hooked up to a 12v switched.

Here's a few photos from the rear. If it's flat and straight, you can see 50' or so.

The grassy photo is in full sunlight shining into the camera of the front lawn and woods.

I am happy with it.

Echo Master identified the deficiiency with what I bought after talking to BlueParrott. They are supposedly sending me a new one with a longer pwr wire incased with the sig wire. yeah!

Great news. I am glad it is resolved. Sorry you had an issue, but it sounds like they are a reputable company to deal with.

Installed my Echo Master back up camera. Picture is plenty nice too me! I followed Nburd pics and it was easy. I did have a problem with the signal pins pulling out of the connector at the radio but once I reset them all good!

I am getting ready to order an Echomaster kit...does anyone have any updates on the status of the power cable? I want to wire the power lead under the dash...not in the rear of the truck!

I will be putting it on a 2013 with 8.4AN screen.

Installation problems

I have a few problems. The first is I had my radio flashed and have everything hooked up but all I have is a blue screen. Secondly all my buttons now don't work in radio with the exception of the power button. What is the black and red wire on the back end of vehicle with the terminal lug on it for? The wire that runs from the camera mini 4 pin to the front off the vehicle. Is that the wire to turn off the lines? Is that a ground? Does our hook up to the reverse light? It is currently not hooked up to anythingWhen I hooked up the wiring harness I disconnected the negative lead as a precaution to make sure I would not cook anything. Any ideas would b be much appreciated.

I have since been able to get the camera to work. I had 2 problems that were causing the camera not to work. First off I didn't have the chassis ground hooked up and secondly the scotchlocks that I was using never perforated the wire jacket. I however still have a couple of problems. First is The camera now stays on all the time after I put it in reverse. Thus when I am driving down the road the camera stays on. Secondly I still have the problem with the touch screen and buttons not working. The radio powers on and I can hear 1 local radio station but that's it. I have the camera powered off of a 12v cigarette lighter that is switched thus it shuts off when the vehicle is off. Any suggestions to any of the problems would be extremely helpful since I'm at a lose as how to proceed.
