Hey guys, I'm considering buying a 1998 2500 with the v10 and automatic transmission. I was wondering if this engine and transmission were good. Also, what kind of mpg are you guys getting? Lastly, is 6,500 obo good for one in decent condition with 150k on the engine and 250k on the body?

If the interior on this truck is even in halfway decent shape and the body doesn't have the rust bug eating it then I'd say $6500 is a good price. I look at used trucks every day and get somewhat appalled at the prices that people are asking for these trucks and the prices that people are willing to pay for them.

Only you can decide if the truck is worth your $6500. Make an informed decision like you are trying to do now and it will benefit you in the future.

The 8.0L 488ci V10 is a solid platform from the late 90's and the 47RH/RE transmission's are solid performers as well when properly cared for. Make sure to service the unit with new fluid and filter and then adjust both bands. The band adjustment is very simple. I like to set the band apply lever to give me a 1/4" gap between the tip of the apply lever and the servo ball that it touches.

You will understand once you get the pan off. If you have any questions post them up.
