How do people feel about the 5.9? I am looking to pick one up for pretty cheap(2K).
Of what I know theres not too much wrong with it other than a small power steering leak, blown speakers, rust on the bed, and that is has 200k on it. How long do you think this thing will run. Ill stay up to date with maintaining it all but do not want a money. I am thinking 1K for a new bed, couple hundred to fix the leak possibly and then throwing in some cheap speakers.

Also what miles do 5.9 owners currently have?

5.9s are great motors. You can get a bed for about 2 to 500 on craigslist. If it has 200k on it it's not always how your gonna treat it but it's how the other person treated it. But if he took good care of it and you do as well, there is no reason it shouldn't go another 100k

When I quit my job in texas I was on my way home I bought a 95 ram 2500 5 speed. I drove it from little rock AR to murfreesboro TN hauling a company truck. The engine has 276k mi and ran fine....it was a loging truck oem engine in it. Just smokes a little and burns a little oil.

5.9 is a great motor. It's a gas guzzling boat anchor but dependable and easily modified for more ponies and mpg's.
The previous maintenance history is the deciding factor for you. Worst case, if the motor blew up, they are very affordable for a rebuild and even cheaper with a used one. Unless the bed is completely rusted and about to fall off the chassis I would suggest investing that money into mechanical issues.
Should you go ahead and buy it, after you drive it for a little bit you will notice all of the warts and gremlins that need to be addressed. It is inevitable with a used vehicle purchase.
Make it mechanically sound first, then worry about pretty.
