So I bought a truck to restore. I had one like this 20 years ago when I met my wife and regret selling it. Its been fun getting it running and have 1 mechanical issue left to tackle. my stock exhaust manifold on the driver side is corroded through. Gotta pull the engine to fix it right and 20 years of oxidation is going to be fun. Since I'm at it, I ordered Gibson shorty headers in stainless. My next question is what exhaust is a good option? I see posts about true dual, some say x pipe. I want to increase flow and most importantly good deep sound. I have a flowmaster super 10 now that dumps inside the frame but before the axle and I like it. I want more of that!

My thoughts were true dual with another flow master but is it worth it? Will there be a decent power or sound gain in true dual? Will it create pressure issues with separate pipes? My teenage son wants me to do true duals and equal length pipes that dumps like I currently have but don't know if that's possible with the fuel tank & clearance.

I am in the process of restoring this truck and plan to do a cold air intake, headers and an exhaust to maximize a deep throated sound. I don't want subtle...

I plan on doing a 4.56 rear end and manual transmission later on. So goal is great sound and fun to drive.

Advice on exhaust options is appreciated!

Hey man, I am in the same boat as you and was wondering what information you have come across? Currently working on figuring out just what to do to get a good balance of power and economy out of my 2003 Ram 1500 SLT Quad cab 4x4, 5 speed manual. Any and all advice you can share would be greatly appreciated, I have very little experience doing anything other than basic maintenance on vehicles. My current plan is to install performance coils and plugs, then with a cold air intake and tuner. Is there anything else I should look at?

Blowmasters are the absolute definition of trash, any chambered muffler sounds like garbage and I can tell instantly when someone is running a chambered style muffler, they sound tinny and loud. Do straight through mufflers of any kind, 2.25" true duals sound best with larger tips. Those 4.7s sound great when done right
