Hello Everyone,
I am new to this site but have used plenty of insight from many threads over the years. I have a question. I have a 03 Ram 1500 4x4 with a replaced motor. It is a 4.7 V8. I had to replace the engine due to the original one over heated (thanks lil sis)

Anyhow, new motor runs great and has only 135k. My questions is: Every time you hit the gas something under the hood makes a raspy/rattling sound and only stops if you let go of the gas. I wonder if its only an exhaust leak or if there is something bigger wrong with the new motor.

Anyone have this issue with the 03 Ram 1500 4x4 4.7 V8?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I read in a forum somewhere that a guy had the exact same problem and ended up being the heat shield on the manifold I believe. Basically look for any loose heat shield/shroud. Hope it helps.

I have a similar issue and a replaced engine in the truck as well (4.7L V8). I went under the truck and found it is the plate holding the Bell Housing to the engine block that is missing 2 bolts (Plate looks like a C with holes for the bolts).

Whenever I hit the gas it starts rattlelling like crazy and stops as soon as I let go of the pedal.

I went to local dealer and they have had to order the bolts as they did not have them in stock.

When I get the bolts I will definitely put some thread locking compound on them as it seems to be an issue with those 4.7L with a replaced engine...

Just thought it could help your diagnosis.

Thanks guys, I will certainly take those things into consideration. I will look under my truck this weekend and see if I come up with any resolutions.

Thanks again.
