I am wondering if I can change the steering wheel of my 2005 dodge 1500 with a newer say 2012 steering wheel? If i can what pitfalls can I avoid? Thanks

Different spline steering shaft was what I was told, as well as the issues of trying to get the 12 airbag from a CAN bus vehicle to work in PCI bus vehicle. Have not tried it myself (I upgraded my 03 to your style lol) but so far as I know those are the reasons I haven't seen one done yet.

Is there a thread somewhere that explains this difference in the CAN vs PCI bus? And what year(s) made this transition? Thanks

Google CAN (Controller Area Network) and PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect). In Rams they migrated to CAN in 2006. The LX platform started that way in 2005. Pretty much a range of 2005-2007 across all platforms. Next gen CAN bus started in 2009 for the Ram.

Thanks, So there was a first gen CAN migration in the 05-07, then a 2nd gen CAN version in the 09+. I have an April-2008 (2500), Is there a way I can determine what I have?
Very good to know. I will definitely do some research on it.
