Hey Guys have a 2006 ram 1500 with 208000 miles on it. Lately while giving it gas from a dead stop there is a clunking and a vibration from the back end and seems worse when I give it more gas. Once it goes down the highway it’s fine. So I check the driveshaft thinking it’s the u-joints and it’s all right, checked oil in rear end it’s full, and did not feel any metal shavings.

Now could it still be the u-joints even if the driveshaft is still tight? It also does this in reverse.

Could also be one of the rear axle bearings...had one of mine go bad around 365k miles. Unfortunately these trucks don’t have rear wheel bearings so have to open up the axle if one goes bad

Well could it still be the u-joints even through the driveshaft is tight? Also would taking off the rear diff cover tell me anything?
