i have a 2006 ram with the horrible infinity system. years ago the front door "base" speakers went bad so those have been removed, now both the dash speakers have gone bad so i just replaced them with some Pyle 3.5's which seem quieter?. i had put in two 10" subwoofers last year and had them working off the front door speaker signal but that stopped working also now. i removed the stock infinity amp and replaced it with another used one, the subwoofers worked for about 10 minutes then went dead also. im guessing there is something electrical going on there and its blowing something in the amp? so i just want to bypass that and put in an aftermarket single din to run everything but have been struggling with info for years. can i get a regular single din install kit with wire adaptor and put that on then cut and splice the wires together at the factory amp to make it work or what? anyone done this? iv searched all over the internet with barely any info on this specific truck. o_O

I would bypass the factory amp and get a cheap aftermarket amp. You can run off your single DIN and tap into the factory speaker wires to your factory amp so all you would need is to run a RCA.

Factory speakers are 2 Ohms so when you put in 4 Ohm speakers you are basically getting half the power out. Don't forget the factory amp has built in cross overs. Personally I would do what cartersvillealex said and get a different amp if you want one.

Did you check out crutchfield? They should have an adapters for both using or bypassing the 06 infinity amp, depending on what you want to do. You need the canbus adapter to keep the amp. Not sure if you can keep your steering wheel controls without an extra harness. They will show it.

I'm collecting all the parts to do my 05 which is the same but different. I'm replacing the amp and speakers with Infinity Reference, but that's just to satisfy my OCD side since it already says Infinity. I wanted to keep the factory amp and speakers, but I have found the factory radio and amp combo on the 05 to be a problem. (radio died on me and didn't tell the amp to turn off, drained the battery) They don't make an adapter that works in my year, so I need a new amp. As you are aware the factory system's sound doesn't warrant the cost of a used factory head unit that may have the same issues.

Definitely find the 06 service manual and check wiring diagrams, colors and connector pinouts. I was working from an 03 and 05's are different and 06's are different still.

You should be able to make use of a lot of the existing wiring. Don't forget the door bellows wiring if you have speakers that don't work.

That's all I got
