Howdy,

I am wanting to increase my low end torque for my truck. Current set-up is 33" tires with 4.10 gears. I will be switching to 35" tires soon. The transmission to the best of my knowledge is stock gearing and was rebuilt at 100,000 miles.

I am wanting to start off small so to speak and work my way up. My understanding is a long tube header with narrower primary tubes would be a decent start with a tune for getting more low end torque. Then the next move would be to install a cam. If the headers are the right choice any recommendations on which ones? As well tuning, any recommendations there? Let me know what has worked for others or if I am on the wrong path altogether.

IMO, you are on the right track with 1-3/4 " primary pipe with long tubes. Use something like a magnaflow dual inlet and single 3" outlet. CAI filter setup,. Talk to one of the experienced engine builders for cam. For tires bigger than 33" use a 4:56 gear. A pair of cnc bv heads, 2800 stall converter. With that all done you will need traction bars and Detroit Trutrac or locker being my favorite. Set your goal for the truck and stay on track otherwise you may have to redo what you have already done to reach a new goal.

Thank for the reply and good to know I am on the right track. I already have a CAI installed. What headers are recommended I have read ARH would be the go to but that just under $1700 price while not out of my range is definitely at the top. Is the cost to benefit ratio of the ARH that good compared to other long tube headers? Never dealt with tuners, any good for a hemi mated to a G56?

I think you will have to choose your headers based on fitment rather than price. If you have the resources to fabricate your own custom headers that maybe another option. As for tuners I would say Diablo CMR tuning is available and relatively inexpensive. I use a 05 manual trans pcm with CMR tuning without issue in my 03.
