At highway speed no hesitation - however when starting from a dead stop, the truck will sporadically hesitate - just started this today.

I have had an EGR code for over a year - and was told if the valve is stuck all the way open, it will act like an EGR delete.

I am thinking the valve has closed somewhat and is possibly affecting acceleration.

Thoughts

I know it's obvious but plugs and plug wires.

Good point thanks.

I have been fixated on the EGR possibility - hadn't considered the plugs and wires

Do you have a 6.7 Diesel as listed in your signature? If so you don't have plugs and wires.

Also if your EGR valve is stuck open it will not act like a EGR delete, actually just the opposite. It will be recirculating all the time.
If you have codes you really should get them sorted out then see where you stand.

Yup - 6.7.

I did check to see if I had missed something over the years - did see there aren't plugs for the truck.

I'll replace the egr - something I should hade done already.

Thank you for your comments - helpful

My bad., I didn't catch the diesel. But I would still chase fuel air and spark to start with.

I would assume since you have the egr codes for over year you have had the codes diagnosed?
Have you tried cleaning the valve and check for air leakage?

I've cleaned it a couple times. It's either the solenoid or the spring in the valve inside the EGR - they are the only 2 moving parts from what I can see.

I will get them both checked and replace whatever is needed - probably the whole EGR

Get your codes checked it possible it could be a sensor. If the egr spring is weak it could leak air as well. Maybe clean the tube that connects to the egr also..good luck.
