I'm North Idaho. TEXAS would travel costs would ad 2k at least to my cost. Another member mentioned Utah which is outside my original 500 mile area. The new engine is less of a factor then the flop noted on car fax. I'll increase my budget an search area and be patient.
Never suggested that you travel all the way to Salt Lake City, Utah, just mentioned that it may require a long drive. Living in a rural area the selections here are limited. You might find a better selection though as far away as Idaho Falls.

So look nation wide. Shipping a car cost approx $1 a mile, maybe able to snag a deal. This would help with your over all budget maybe even private party. Pay for an independent company to look at it? Get a better truck for a better price, just some pain in the rear

I am doing nationwide search with a buck a mile cost adjustment. I work for myself so I can take off with my wife's and daughters permission or try to make it a family weekend. You're right about rural availability of the good stuff. Just isn't usually here.

Well, just got word the truck had O2 sensor put in it and that may have fixed it. Maybe? Buuuttt there was a new dent during service requiring paint to fix.

Already taking the good advice received here, thanks again. Not even making a low ball offer.

I am surprised how off I was on the value placed by the communiy refurbished 2011.

I do like the lower differential gearing and slightly lower transfer case gearing of 2014 and earlier I believe. Easy to spot with change to 6.4 engine and prices.

Thanks.
I contacted the dealer for a CarFax. Email response
"Truck is no longer available. It has MOTOR ISSUE."
Are you kidding me? Marc Marasco was the sales guy to reply. The truck remains on the web site.
This was my fear in 100k mileage 5.7s was durability. This issue, at least the long block, addressed already on the one I am walking away from.

I'm no mechanic, so how handy are you? If you can fix most of the smaller issues it could be worth it(I don't think I'd go more than $12,500 for it myself though it looks to only have averaged around 25k per year), me, I'd have to return it to the dealership or a mechanic for almost everything! When I was into Jeeps, and I bought a used one, they nickled and dimed me to death! A PW has the possibility of hitting you hard in the wallet a LOT if you can't do some of the work yourself.
So, I purchase new only now and/or VERY lightly used....and these days ALWAYS check to see if the vehicle was in a flood!
Just my .02 good luck whichever way you decide!

I can fix it. My Dad has a killer set of tools. :) The problem is time.

Seems like depreciation is a freight train. Impossible to stop.

Here is the recent work.

3500 161k over hauled exhaust and transmission

1500 174k wheel bearing, HUBS, caliper, rotors replaced

5000 193k engine replaced

1500 193k rear end replaced

1500 193k fuel pump

1500 193k smart module

6300 193k tipm replaced wiring, rear end, fuel pump, fuel lines.

$20800 total spent on recent

Cat and O2 issues still to be determined.
Has new mud tires add $800?

I would pay max $15k considering the new motor, recent trans, and warranty. I'm willing to add $5k to the consensus here. Plus it is clean in and out. $22k is apparently the bottom line.

M opinion on the 'rolled' truck. It has needed quite a few repairs recently. What make you think they got it right this time? As far as how much value the repairs add... 0$. A motor with 197k miles can go 1 mile or 400k miles, the rebuilt motor can go 1 or 400k miles. No one knows but imo a rebuilt motor isn't worth more than the factory motor.

I've seen and done it many times. Buy a car on the cheap end of the scale thinking I'm getting a deal and the cost of ownership is the same as if I'd just bit the bulit and bought the right one first.

Have you decided to buy the old Wagon or go buy a new PW with warranty and rebates?

I love my truck!

Bought a Manual Diesel. New. Last of the Manuals. It has a sticker on it says "Offroad 4x4". So it's just like a Power Wagon.:)
Drove home in a blizzard so we bonded for 12 hours but not sure what I will do for mods. Like the way it is for now. Lockers would be helpful about now in my neighborhood iwht 12" new snow. Love the Manual. Discount was okay. I got a USAA coupon I can get and an up fit bonus coming that helps.

Only a Power Wagon is just like a Power Wagon. Then there are 2 levels of a Power Wagon.
1- Power Wagon
2- Tradesman Power Wagon.
There are no others!
Off Road package is not a Power Wagon

I have the 2016 2500 Tradesman of which the article I posted the link to states as having a choice of the Power Wagon package without any of the glitter. It's probably was more expensive than the off road package at the time, but it didn't come with any of the side panel decals of the Power Wagon and probably lacks some other nice features, and so it was cheaper. Nice to have options.

There's some great 4x4 features with the selection of the off road package due to I have some similar options on my old 1998 Chevrolet K1500 Cheyenne. It also was a cheaper model versus the Silverado Z71 of the time. Wind up windows, cheap squeaky speakers, cheapest bench seat springs which still to this day dig into my back, and a stick are pretty basic.

I have a real need though for locking differentials due to some heavy snow covering solid ice on the steep grade of my private dirt road during the winter. My K1500 would begin to slip (shutter and skip) attempting get some traction up the grade on ice even in 4x4 Low. I've actually have made it to the top, only to slide down some 50 yards backwards out of control to the creek. With snow chains on it always made it. The Power Wagon has these same issues in 4 Low, but when I switch on the lockers, there's traction once they are both locked in.
