I keep wanting to buy these but I have read that you have do all sorts of trickery such as adjusting ur air fuel ratio and a lot of other stuff to get the truck running right after u add one. Can any one shed light on this for me

I assume you're talking about the JBA shorty's, guys were running them before tuners were available with no issues.

The trinity is good if you wanna go with a custom tune later on, if you but it from hemifever he includes a free tune with the product but if you're just going canned tunes the bully dog seems to have stronger canned tunes. Neither is truly needed though for the headers though.

If you plan on getting a custom tune, get the Trinity. If you want to data log, get the trinity. If you're fine with canned tunes, get the Bully Dog. Hard to say which one is better. I know the Trinity still has issues with raising WOT shift points. From the research I've done, the Bully Dog has better gauges. With that said, once I get headers and the rest of the bolt ons I plan on doing, I may buy a Trinity as well, and get some CMR tuning. I can tell you without a doubt, that the Bully Dog with the performance tune is the best mod I've done to date. It runs really strong.

BTW, everybody seems happy with the JBA shorty's that I've seen, just make sure you get the ceramic coated ones. The JBA's have proper D-shaped flanges which match the exhaust ports, the BBK's do not. Plus the BBK's won't fit 4x4's.

whats wrong with non ceramic coated headers ? do they rust real easy ?

also whats a canned tune ? what I do know is power commanders so I hope I don't loose any one when I say: with either of these can I go online and get "maps" or do I have to take it to a garage and have them dyno and tune it their ? also I take it some guys will send you custom tune settings, what are these running ?

The BBK flanges have been corrected and now have the proper D shape ports. That issue was fixed months ago. But they are only for the 2WD's. Any 2wd owner considering shorty headers, I would save the money and go with BBK. If you want true performance, then save up for some longtubes.

Tuning is not required with either, but it will help.

Both have a nice monitor, but the Diablo is more advanced. It is custom tunable and is also universal so it will work on many different makes and models (only 1 at a time though).

The Bullydog s nice because it is simple. Its canned tunes runs strong, and they are not having any issues with raising shift points like the Diablo is. Both units are going to show a nice improvement for your truck, so in the end, it really comes down to whether you need the custom tuning or not.

The silver ceramic has a glossy silver finish and the titanium has a matte grey finish. The titanium is also supposed to have a 200* hotter temp rating.

Considering there really isn't much someone can do to a 2012 5.7 as far as engine mods go, what reason would there be for custom tuning over a canned tune such as the Bully Dog?

You can do a lot to a 2012. Heads, cam, headers, intake, forced induction or nitrous, etc
