Hi guys, new to the forum.
I've got a 2011 3500 Ram 4x4 with the 6.7-liter diesel engine.
To make a long painful story short, my ex-gf got into an accident with my truck a few years back and things being the way they were, I ended up putting the truck into storage until I could get around to doing the repairs necessary to get my truck back on the road.
We'll, during it's time in storage, some people thought they would remove much of what was left intact on my truck. Many body parts, my big wheels and tires, most of the front end, including the hood and some of the engine.. Oh, and they also took out a lot of the interior, much of the dash, including the gauge cluster, ignition switch and so on.
So I show up, keys in hand, see the state of the truck and just end up turning around and go back home.
Last summer, I located all the engine parts required at a local wrecker and put the entire thing back together. I also took the key switch out of another truck with hopes my key would still start my truck. No such luck..
My question is, can I take my original key to the dealer and have the replacement key switch reprogrammed for my key? Does a cluster need to be in there for the truck to start? Does it need to be reprogrammed to my original key?
I need to know what I need to start the truck so I can get it into the body shop for repairs. Thanks for the help.
