Hi, I'm new to the forums but have had my truck for a while now. I am looking into getting a Travel Trailer and want to make sure my truck is set up the best it can be. I plan to buy a 2500 in a few years but I have to make do with what I have for now. I have a 2011 quad cab sport 5.7 with the class IV hitch. I just put on new Falken Wildpeaks. I am ordering the electronic brake controller and plan to add that soon (both plugs are there). I have 120k miles and I want to keep the truck in good shape so it tows the best it can. I am looking at a camper with a 504lb tongue weight and 6995 gvwr. Should I do anything to the truck that will add to it trailering well? Other than a WD hitch. Any recommendations are great. I will also replace the plugs again before I start to tow. Flush the cooling, trans, rear and do some general maintenance work like brakes and rotors.

Take notice when you hook up how far down the rear squats when the weight is on it. You'll be able to raise it back up some with the WD hitch, but now the hitch is doing some of the work the rear springs should be doing. A lot of people are going to recommend air bags, I recommend the TuffTruck springs. Install them and forget about them, no adding or letting out air as the situation dictates, and no chance of leaks. They have a few different options, depending on how often you tow or put any appreciable weight in the bed. I went with the variable rate, fits my daily use nicely. They're very helpful if you call and let them know what your doing.

That trailer tongue weight will be much higher if you load the trailer to gvwr. I would expect 800 or more lbs. If you properly set up your wd hitch you may not need any helper springs.

With a trailer that size you should be fine as long as you have a good weight distribution / anti sway hitch. But the TT springs are a nice add on. I would do them before any air bag set up and I just may do that.

I picked up a '19 Classic Express in Dec and I haven't towed with it yet so I may add them. I had a '14 Express before this and it towed my 33' trailer just fine but those springs wouldn't hurt.

BTW... Where at in Jersey are you?

Going with air bags vs springs is more a personal preference or based on usage of the truck. There has been times pulling the trailer out of the field air bags have helped with ground clearance till I was back on a flat road.

What’s the rear gear ratio? I went with 4.10s from 3.21 and it made a world of difference.

You will want your tongue weight to be at least 12-15%, or else you will get constant sway.
