After reading every post I can find on this subject I want to make sure I'm right and have a question.

Ok so all that I can determine is that the carrier has changed. In so that the bolt pattern is different for the ring gear correct? So that's keeping aftermarket gears from fitting. Same for the aftermarket lockers/posi units have the old carrier bolt patten so they say they won't fit the new oem ring gear bolt pattern?

So, I have to ask the question. Why not just install an aftermarket posi with aftermarket gears that was for the 2010 down rearend?

I'm not sure if the 2010 differential will fit in the zf diff housing
You would have to swap then rear axle I think

You have two options that I am aware of, (1) swap axles with a 2010 or (2) have your current carrier modified to accept 2010 gears (which can be done).

What you're saying makes sense, but there's some reason why that won't work or it would have been done before. (Now for the life of me I can't remember why.)

From what I've been able to find. They are the same size. Since most aftermarket lockers I've bought in the past come with there own carrier. I'm just hopeing this was a case of reading between the lines that no one has figured out yet. All the info I have found simply points to the carrier bolt pattern.

The ring gear bolt pattern is diffrent, the axels are diffrent and the way the carrier is made from what ive gatered the carrier is slightly offset causing one axel to be longer than the other kinda like old 9in ford. I went threw all this a month or two ago and just ended up going with the rt combo. You can buy the mopar lsd/powertrack and buy any 9.25 gears and just have the carrier drilled to take them if you wanted deeper than 4.10
hope this helps you

It seems like the axle shaft on one side isn't ling enough if you try to install a pre-2011 carrier

From what I've been able to find. They are the same size.

Yes, the ring gears for pre-2011 and 2011+ are the same size. When I machined my 2011+ carrier, all I had to have done was the bolt pattern matched and the bolt holes recessed because the flange is thicker
