I have a 2013 Ram Big Horn Hemi.
I have noticed a small rumble in the front of the engine while running.

I checked the Idler pulley and fine.

I have a regular clutch fan and it has a small warble to it.
I grabbed the fan blades and it will warble about 1/8 inch on the shaft closest to the radiator.
I also put a wrench on the nut to wiggle the shaft to see if its the water pump shaft and its as tight as can be.
Would this warble on the clutch fan be normal and would it cause the small rumble when im in front of grill I can hear the noise?

If you all think its on its way out would a good aftermarket part work, as an OEM is $250.00, the After market fan is a bout $70.00 shipped

thanks

Mine is tight. No movement whatsoever.

The aftermarket clutch fans don't have a good reputation.

I'd go OEM. If money is tight, maybe look for a low mileage used OEM on eBay.

Given how long an OEM clutch fan lasts, the difference in price between aftermarket and OEM amortized across a decade makes OEM the better deal.

I’m on my second aftermarket clutch fan, it takes forever to release. Junk. I have a Dorman E fan coming in two days.

I'd delete the clutch driven fan, the ac fan and put the V6 fan on the truck. It's quieter, it flow as much if not more air, it frees up the water pump from drag and might add a few HP.

Thanks for the suggestions on going electric but just looking to replace the clutch fan and call it a day.

I guess by the responses I should get an OEM used or New.
I think I will look for an OEM

So I picked up a oem clutch fan and need more info I have changed these before on my 2005 no problem was able to sneak it out the top shroud.
On my 2013 I have a fisher plow and my question is.
Would the push plates be in the way to get the lower shroud section removed to remove clutch fan out the bottom?
If so can I remove it out the top some sneaky way. I was thinking if I could loosen the 4 fan blade screws then loosen the 36mm clutch nut, I might be able to remove both apart and sneak the blade and clutch separate out the top.

Any suggestions on a 2013 removal
I have not had a chance to look underneath to see if the plow push plates are in the way.

thanks

You can easily remove half the shroud without any tools and take the fan off from the bottom. There are plenty of YouTube videos that show how simple and quick it is to do. Just search for water pump replacement videos...

I guess you did not read my post #9 I have a fisher plow on the truck and has the pushplates. I have not had a chance to see if they would be in the way.
I do know about the lower part but in case i cant remove the bottom is there a way to sneak it out the top if I can remove the blade 4 screws and then remove the 36mm nut. and take it out in 2 pieces?

If you can't get to it from the bottom you will probably have to take the fan off and the shroud and pull them together. I've removed several of these from my own vehicles and unless you can get the bottom portion of the fan shroud off, I personally have never been able to get the fan out between the shroud and engine block without removing them both.

I always unscrew the fan from the water pump as it's just easier than disassembly

Ps the nut on the water pump is reverse or left hand threads.

A shortcut to the fan nut removal is the use of an air hammer. Just put a non sharp bit in it and from the passenger side, place the bit on the top of the nut and hit it a few times. Takes seconds. Do this with the belt on still. Turn it clockwise.

I just had time to look and there is plenty of room to remove the fan shroud on the bottom.

And if i Had to i could of removed from the top if I could remove the fan blade from the clutch fan and sneak it out the top. So next couple week ill get to change the fan clutch with blade.

Mine make a kinda noise and has a small warble to it want to get it changed before it takes out the water pump.

I have seen some youtube videos for that but I have a wrench with 2 pins that fit in the pulley and i can use another wrench to loosen the clutch nut. Just gotta find time to do it.
thanks for the reply

Good chance it'll still fight you, especially if the trucks been run up in rpm a few times in the last 12 years. They self tighten, and if the trucks been drove aggressively, you might be looking for an air hammer even with your pinned wrench. You can buy clutch fan removal wrenches that fit a standard air hammer.Hunt around, you might even be able to rent the wrenches and a air hammer if you don't have one.

It's been 10 years since i had to pull a fan,but i think this might be the correct size, somebody hopefully will have had one off recently, and can correct me if i'm wrong on the size.

There's your proof... too many warbles will make you lose your marbles! :anitoof:

You can pull it out from the top intact with the shroud in place, just have to fight it going around the belt if the belt is still on - if it is the same as my 2016.
My 16 will come out of the top on the drivers side . The fan itself flexes.

To anybody wondering by this thread looking how to 100% get the fan clutch assembly off with proper application of force, this is the way. I notice @Midknight does the same in this thread here. Here's a copy of his picture:

Did mine a couple of weeks ago with a similar tool (mine has the pins already on it) and a huge set of channel lock pliars on the nut. One easy thump on the pliars and it broke loose instantly. Took whopping 5 minutes
