My rack and pinion went bad and the electric power steering would not work if it was 20 degrees out or lower.

Part was over 2k at the dealer and they are backorderd with no estimated delivery date.

Went the non OEM route for $1200.

Really like my truck but it is disturbing to me that it failed at 70k and then to find the dealer cannot even get one.

Any of you had rack and pinion fail or am I just lucky?

In my shop we’ve replaced maybe 2 or 3 since they came out with it in 2013. It’s not a common failure by any means, doesn’t mean it can’t happen though.

There could be a design or supplier change which would cause a backorder.

On a 2008 2500 we had at my work, reg car 2wd, changed the entire front end every year. Like clockwork, regardless of kms. Never towed or hauled with it either. Unreal how rough riding that thing was. Speed wobble at speed... time to get a new front end. Soooo glad these gens aren't that bad now.

How did your replacement work? My rack went bad (2013) as well and I just picked up the used rack that I bought for $800. Dealership said that they are VIN specific so sometimes the replacements will work and sometimes they won't. My truck only has $50k miles...
