2013 Ram 1500 - 2D - 2WD - 5.7L - Shortbed

My EPS rack and pinion is shot. any minute steering is almost impossible due to this. i’m looking for a replacement rack and pinion but having trouble finding one. I called a place to check for availability but i was told the SHORT bed single cabs have a different rack and pinion style. Apparently all of the 4D’s and even the 2D LONG bed all have the same ones. Supposedly something in the 2D SHORT beds have something different about out them. Anyone know what it could be? could i really not use one from a 4D truck? All the websites i check online also say they’re not compatible

Pretty sure they are all the same. The websites suck.

Crawl under it and get the part# of the rack itself. Post that here, and a few pics of the rack and it'll be pretty easy to verify compatibility.

Pretty much every 4th gen that uses electronic power steering uses the same rack. There are a million part numbers and Ram shows them to all be incompatible with each other. That is nonesense.

The latest revision 4th gen EPS rack is 68628858AA

I can’t quite work on it at the moment due to the recent snowstorm in my area, and since it’s almost impossible to steer i can’t move it into my shop, so i have to wait for the snow to clear up before i can get under it. But i tried digging around and what i’ve been told is the input shafts sizes are different, with the SBSC being 17mm and turn to turn lock is 3 full rotations, meanwhile the others (quad cabs) are 22mm input shafts with a 3 1/2 full turns. Once i can get under it i’ll verify if i can spot the difference and i even have a donor quad cab i bought not too long ago, so once the weather clears up i’ll take a look and see the differences and see if i can just slap the quad cabs one on. cause availability for the single cab one is apparently very scarce. i can’t find them anywhere in my area.

Detroit axle #3KS50321. i just replaced mine in the fall. i however have a crew cab short bed, but like someone else said, i believe they are all the same, ram just seems to say they aren't all compatible. i had done some digging and it seemed like all of the part numbers go back to a few different. the dealership also told me that i would need the system flashed, i did the rack myself and it was plug and play. i believe 13 was the first year they used eps on the rams

The recent Napa email advertisement shows they carry the Dorman brand. New. Good luck.
