So a couple days went to leave my driveway and my column shifter wouldnt move from park, then when attempted to shift it popped down rapidly and only goes to reverse and neutral, unable to shift back to park and key stuck in accessory. So had to disco negative battery terminal so not to kill the battery. After some research I have checked and removed the shift bracket and nothing appears broken, I bought a new transmission solenoid for the shift bracket and no change still wont shift other than to reverse and neutral. I'm at a loss what else to look at and trying to save a ton having it towed to a garage and getting raked over the coals. The column shift is super loose and can see the cable going back and forth and hear the shifting at the transmission when it hits those 2 hears. If anyone has had this problem or can direct me where to look it would be greatly appreciated as I now have no vehicle to use. Thanks to all that reply. This is the 5.7 Hemi 6 speed column shift by the way if that helps.

Must be a 2500 series (??), or Tradesman? ...either way...

Was it a Chrysler dealer you towed it to?
Were there any transmission codes?
Does the lever actuate smoothly with the cable unhooked?
I suppose you don't know since it's at the shop....

I haven't dealt with this issue, personally, but I would probably dig into the column, determine the cause of the 'looseness' you described. See if there is something broken or binding with the gearshift bracket (pictured below). Esp if it feels loose, maybe one of the cast aluminum parts cracked or broke. Maybe remove it and see if it moves freely. Check the switch too. Could be the switch broke internally and is giving 'errant' position readings and the computer 'thinks' its in a position it's not (and forcing it locked). It's not that expensive of a part (linked below). I just typed in specs for a 2015 2500 Tradesman ...so verify fitment in case your truck/part is different than pictured below.

If that doesn't do it, then it's probably time to drop the tranny pan and look up in there. Sorry I can't help more. Tackle the known issues first (looseness). Hopefully it gets you started.
