I can make a really good deal on a travel trailer which is 35' long and the base weight is 7655#. I will tow it from Illinois to Michigan. About 2 hour drive and leave it on my property. Now the question is can I safely do it with my 2016 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.9 V8 crew cab 5ft bed 3.21 gear ratio (at least that what it says on the sticker)

You'll want a weight distribution and anti sway hitch with that length. Can your truck tow it? Yes. Will it be a great tow experience? Probably not. But it's a one time thing. Take your time and you should be ok.

You will probably be over your towing capacity but the truck should tow it without much trouble power wise. Your biggest issue will likely be the 35' length and the wind hitting it. Just keep your speeds down and watch for semi's passing you as it will create some sway. That said, pretty sure that truck with 3.21's has about an 8200lb towing capacity. You will probably be at least 8500-9000 even empty. Dry weights are basically unrealistic. Make sure you are using a properly set up WDH and trailer brakes

Will I be able to do it without the anti sway hitch? Don't want to spend $500 to use it one time only

Let me know when you start the trip so I can be off the road. That trailer will have your truck on the bumpstops with the front tires almost off the ground(not really but steer axle will be almost negligible).

Will it pull it, sure, will it stop it, hopefully.

Get the hitch or hire a company or borrow a bigger truck.

Weight distribution hitch will be a must. Sway control optional but recommended. You will almost certainly be over your GAWR on the rear.

if you don’t want to spend $500 on a proper hitch have you considered checking into options for having someone tow it for you, using a properly sized and set up truck?
Best,
DG

This is completely false [emoji1787]. Unless he loads the ever loving **** out of it there will be no issues. My TT is 7500lbs 30ft I have a 18 4x4 cc 3.21s. Takes the trailer thru the mountains on several thousand miles trips yearly never once an issue. Not to mention he is pulling it 1 time. Again OP you'll be fine.

Another thing mentioned in here. Do you have a brake controller? That you will need.

All in all, borrowing or renting a properly set up truck is a great idea since it's a one time thing.

Another option is to rent a truck from Enterprise or other source for a day and tow. That's how a couple friends moved large trailers to their property in Northern Michigan. They used F-350's locally.

You have a proper set up. That makes all the difference. Weight isn't the main issue. It's his set up or lack of one.

But he probably has a proper towing set up. Again weight isn't the issue, your set up is.

My trailer is 7500 loaded and 33' long and I wouldn't want to tow a 35' trailer. Those few extra feet make a big difference.

You've gotten some good advice in here, ultimately the decision is up to you. Choose wisely.

Do you have a special setup or just regular stuff? My truck came with towing package but I don't have that knob to control trailer brakes.

Kris,
This is the set up we all have. That's what you need to tow the trailer safely.

Ford Excursion is built off a 2500 chassis, if he has the Powerstroke or V-10 for that matter there is a whole lot more weight over the front axle.
You'll want a WDH and trailer brake controller to tow a trailer that size. I pull an enclosed that 32' overall and sometimes it's over 8K lbs loaded. With the WDH set properly I drive it one handed(cruise set sometimes) and the truck/trailer stays stable.
