2016 Console phone holder in a 2014

Hello everyone, new here. I have a 2014 Ram 2500 Laramie truck with full center console. My question to you all is.... I want to put the 2016 center console top in my 2014 truck with the cell phone holder and better cup holder. My question is, do I need to modify anything to make this work or do I just have to take the trim ring and top off as well as cup holders and it will go in? I have seen where guys have said they had to modify the bottom of the 2016 one to work but I have not confirmed. Just curious if anyone on here has done that or not.

I'm not sure the answer to your question about modification but a forum member/vendor (@wadestar) makes a solution that might work for you at a great price...

To my knowledge it requires a significant adjustments.

I purchased a 2016 insert. To swap it over. It's a big change. Not saying it can't be done, just saying you will need to make it fit.

I bought the phone holder referenced above off Amazon for 20 bucks or so.

That's what I was curious about. Wasn't sure if I could just remove the whole top and the cup holder and cubby section out of it and bolt this whole assembly down or not.
