Hi All - I noticed a howling from the rear end, troubleshooting led me to replace the rear pinion bearing. 140,000 miles.
I removed the pinion and had a 0.064" shim behind the rear bearings race. I didn't know at the time, and upon removing the race I damaged the shim.
I installed new shims behind the bearing instead of the race, the same amount 0.064" shims. I have test bearings and the old crush sleeve in place, and when I go to tighten the pinion nut I bottom the nut out and still have a bit of back and forth play. The pinion also spins freely.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
The bearing kit I am using is from Moes Performance.
